Korbach is an old medieval town with great buildings, but drive beyond the town for a bit, there are some even more fascinating and unusual sights nearby. The local hills used to have a gold vein running through, and although mostly mined out, a drive to nearby Eisenberg hill is not only pretty but informative. It leads to the hamlet of 'Goldhausen' which was the traditional home of gold mining in this area. There's also the Georg-Viktor tower, which is 24 metres high and a good pace to view the lovely old medieval town from. Or try following the 'Goldtrail', great if you have children. More recently, in 1964 a rich seam of fossils has been uncovered at the 'Korbacher Spalt', a 20 meter deep trench, a great place to drive to for geology enthusiasts. Or perhaps take a drive to the ancient old castle just outside the town. There is also a small non commercial airfield a few miles from town, which makes it a great destination for those with gliders or who can fly a small plane.
