Oh damn, mad I was when upon reaching SFO after 20 hours of flying I realized that SIXT is yet another 5-minute shuttle away from the onsite SFO car rental hub (to get to which takes 10-15 minutes on the AirTrain). Somehow this fairly tiny inconvenience of additional hop-on-hop-off itches irrationally while you pass all the rentals stands in order to get to Sixt.
But it was completely worth it -- we got a great upgrade! Although it was only one category up, the car was a small modern Mercedes sedan instead of a Hyundai Sonata.
Magic was still awaiting though!
After 10 days or so, we have realized that we actually need a car for more days, and Sixt call center suggested that although we could request an extension, we might be better off returning the car and re-booking for the longer period because there are better fares for longer than 21 (or 22?) days rentals. So, excited to possibly get an even better deal for my category, but hoping to remain on the same (upgraded) car, we drove to Sixt.
Only to discover yet another upgrade! Now it was a Mercedes SUV instead of a sedan.
What a treat!
Despite we are not using the car much given the COVID restrictions, we enjoy it even so much more during those 10 minutes of driving to the essential places.
Thank you, guy!
PS no, we did not get the better fare though, because after all, our rental was not long enough to qualify, but we are completely happy.
