Traffic Information

Miami has several primary roadways that are good to know for getting around. There is I-95 which runs parallel to the coast and the I-75 which cuts across to the Gulf Coast. State Highway 836, also known as the Dolphin Expressway and State Highway 826, known as the Palmetto Expressway, are also major routes on the outskirts of the city. You can expect to encounter toll roads while driving in Miami and it is recommended to look into your best options for buying a SunPass electronic toll transmitter. You can keep updated about traffic and other important road information with 511 app from the Florida Department of Transportation.

The surface roads in Miami are rather easy to navigate as they are designed around a grid system and roads are numbered based on their distance from the city center. All avenues run north to south and streets run east to west. This, however, is not true if you are in nearby municipalities such as Hialeah, Coral Gables or Coconut Grove. When visiting nearby Miami Beach be aware that in places like South Beach parking is limited and can wind up being quite expensive. It is worth downloading one of the several parking apps available which facilitate payment and can even direct you to a free parking space.
