Gouyave Nutmeg Factory makes for a fascinating day trip. It is one of the largest spice factories on the island and you can see the nutmeg production process from start to finish.
Arguably the most popular place for hiking on the island, the Grand Etang Nature Reserve is a stunning park made of rainforests, mountains, rivers and lakes. The hikes are terrific and cater to a range of ages and abilities. Grand Anse Beach is one of the most popular for a good reason, 2 miles of silky smooth white sand and a sheltered bay. Because of Grand Anse's size you can always find a spot and it doesn't appear too crowded. Caribs' Leap is a steep cliff in the north of the island where the defeated Caribs' are said to have leapt to their deaths to avoid domination by the French. This gave a name to the nearby town of Sauteurs, the French word for jumpers. The Royal Mt. Carmel Waterfalls are two stunning falls that can be easily hiked to in around 30 minutes. Follow the sound of the falls as you walk through a plantation of fruits and spices.
