To ensure that we always offer you vehicles in like-new condition through the SIXT+ Car Subscription, the vehicles in our fleet are subject to regular service intervals, as well as limits on their time in service and maximum mileage. Once a vehicle reaches these limits, it must be replaced. Of course, we do our best to keep necessary vehicle replacements to a minimum. With the SIXT+ Car Subscription, you save yourself the hassle of maintenance and waiting time at the repair shop. We keep you on the road.
In that case, we’ll notify you well in advance via email. You’ll also see a banner in the SIXT app and in your online customer account.
The email or banner will take you to an online form where you can easily select your preferred date for the swap. When selecting the date, you can also let the location know if you’d like to switch to a different vehicle category. The team will do its best to accommodate your request based on availability, but we cannot guarantee it.
On the selected date, drive your vehicle to the assigned location. There, another vehicle from the booked group will already be waiting for you to exchange. For organisational reasons, an exchange at a different location is not possible.
Please allow approximately 15–20 minutes for the handover, and please bring your original, valid driver's license (not a copy).
The vehicle should have a full tank of gas / be at least 80% charged and not be excessively dirty to avoid extra charges.
As a little bonus for driving to the station, we’ll automatically add 50 km to your mileage credit.
If you are unable to keep an exchange appointment, please contact us as soon as possible by phone or via email at plus-us@sixt.com. Please note that without advance notice or in the event of a culpable failure to keep an exchange appointment, fees will apply in accordance with the rental terms and conditions.

Even during the subscription term, you can switch to a different vehicle category at any time—whether to a larger or smaller class. This way, you can always tailor your mobility to your needs in a cost-effective way.
Check our website or the SIXT app to see all vehicle groups currently available at your location.
Request a category change by emailing plus-us@sixt.com, specifying the desired new category and your preferred time window for the swap (at least 5 days in advance). Our team at the location will check availability and, if possible, offer you a vehicle swap. Swaps at other locations are not possible.
Please note the following:
You may change the category no more than once per 30-day billing period.
We will do our best to fulfill your request as quickly as possible, but we cannot always guarantee a change depending on vehicle availability. In any case, you will receive a prompt response to your request.
A vehicle exchange for a specific (different) model, trim level, or engine type is not possible
A category change is only possible at the assigned contract location
A one-time €49.99 processing fee applies for a requested vehicle swap. This fee covers the associated costs, including vehicle preparation.
When you switch vehicles, your monthly payment will be adjusted accordingly. For the current month, you’ll always be charged the rate for the higher vehicle category. This means that if the vehicle switch results in a higher monthly payment, it will be charged immediately starting this month. If the switch results in a lower payment, the new rate will take effect starting with the next billing period.
If we can accommodate your request to switch, you’ll receive confirmation from our branch team, possibly with a suggested alternative date. Simply bring your vehicle to the branch at the agreed-upon time and allow about 15–20 minutes for the handover.
Please do not drive to the branch without final confirmation of the category change.
