Pause Subscription

Manage your subscription in the app

With the SIXT app, you can always keep track of your subscription! The SIXT app offers many important features that make it easy to manage your car subscription. You can change your mileage package, pause your subscription, or add an additional driver at any time.

How can I pause my car subscription?

You can easily pause your SIXT+ car subscription at any time for a minimum of 14 and up to 90 days using the SIXT app. Here’s how it works:

Open your subscription in the SIXT app and click on the MANAGE SUBSCRIPTION > PAUSE SUBSCRIPTION tab

Select the desired start and end dates for the subscription pause

Return the vehicle to the SIXT location well in advance of the selected start date of the subscription pause

Pick up the vehicle again at the location on the selected end date of the subscription pause and resume your subscription as usual

What costs apply while the subscription is paused? Will I receive a credit if I return the car during an active billing period to pause my subscription?

Of course, no monthly fees are charged while the subscription is paused. This gives you more flexibility, saves you money, and also reduces your carbon footprint.

If you return the car within a current 30-day period to pause your subscription, a prorated credit for the unused days will be issued. The credit will automatically be applied to the first subscription payment when you resume your subscription after the pause. The credit cannot be paid out.

Example: Let’s say your current period runs from September 1 to September 30, and you want to pause your subscription from September 15 to October 15 (30 days).

Select the suspension period via the SIXT app

Return your vehicle to the SIXT location by September 15 (the start date of the subscription suspension). The suspension begins upon return.

The unused days from the last period (September 15 through 30) will be credited to you at the start of the period following the subscription pause, provided you pick up your vehicle on the agreed-upon resumption date of October 15.

What happens if I don’t return the vehicle on time? Can I change the pause period again?

If the vehicle is not returned by the announced start of the subscription pause, the reserved pause period automatically expires and your SIXT+ Car Subscription will continue at the regular rate.

You can adjust the suspension period at any time, even after returning the vehicle.

Will a security deposit be blocked again when picking up the vehicle after the suspension period, if paying by credit card?

Yes, please note that a security deposit will be blocked again when you pick up the vehicle. The amount depends on the vehicle category and can be found in the rental information. Please ensure that your credit limit is sufficient for the booked vehicle category. The amount will be released back to your credit card at the end of the first 30-day period.

There is no additional sign-up fee when you resume your subscription.

What happens to my mileage balance while my subscription is on hold?

The mileage you’ve accumulated in your mileage vault over the past few months does not expire while your subscription is on hold; it will still be available once you resume your subscription.

What happens to my vehicle during the pause?

The vehicle will continue to be used efficiently and as needed, rather than sitting idle. This sustainably reduces the total number of vehicles required.

When you resume your subscription, you’ll once again receive a vehicle from the category you booked. Please understand, however, that we may not be able to provide you with the same vehicle you had before the pause.

How often can I pause my subscription?

In general, you can pause your subscription as often as you like. The only important thing is that a single pause can last a maximum of 90 days, and there must be at least one full billing month between pauses. This means that if you restart your subscription after a pause, you won’t be able to pause it again until the second month following the restart.
