At SIXT ride we feel that is important to keep our customers up to date with the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation in each country is different, restrictions on travel have been imposed all around the globe. Things are constantly changing with some countries beginning to lift certain restrictions, and so we advise everyone to listen and adhere to the official advice in your country.
While many people are working and staying home when possible, there are of course still journeys that need to take place, including trips to the hospital or your doctor. SIXT ride is continuing to operate all around the world and allow people to make those essential journeys as safely as possible.
The safety of our passengers and drivers is our top priority!
Here’s what we are doing to keep you safe:
- Telling our drivers to stay at home and self-isolate if they have any of the symptoms of coronavirus set out by the WHO.
- Cleaning frequently-touched surfaces, both inside and on the outside of the vehicle, with disinfectant after every journey.
- Our drivers are adhering to the advice from the WHO and are frequently washing their hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer, avoiding touching their face, and not sneezing or coughing into their hands.
- It has never been our policy for drivers to greet passengers with a handshake. Our drivers will continue to politely greet you at a safe distance.
- Providing hand sanitizer to passengers upon request.
- Passengers are only able to sit in the back of the vehicle to maintain a safe distance.

Our drivers are providing an essential service in this difficult time and therefore we encourage you to always follow the current advice to also protect our drivers. Please refrain from booking with SIXT ride if you are experiencing any symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19.
Frequently asked questions
Am I able to cancel my booking?
We have a very flexible cancellation policy. With regards to A-to-B journeys booked in advance, all Economy Light journeys can be canceled for free up to 24 hours before the pickup time. For all other booking categories, you can cancel for free up to one hour before the scheduled pickup time. Please see our booking conditions for all of the information you need.
What services am I able to book?
All of our services are still available to book: rides to or from the airport, a journey within a city, city-to-city journeys, hourly bookings, and ride-hailing/taxi services in selected cities.
Due to constant changing laws and restrictions worldwide we keep updating out systems and booking availability. If rides, that have already been booked, are no longer possible, we will inform all customers affected.
Please understand that cross-border rides are not available at the moment due to travel restrictions. We are happy to provide a drop-off and pick-up at the border to ensure you are reaching your final destination.
What is the procedure when a driver or customer tests positive for COVID-19?
We require any employee or chauffeur who tests positive to inform us immediately. We ask all our customers to do the same if they have booked a ride with SIXT in the two weeks prior. Once informed, we will notify those who were in contact with the affected person for the previous two weeks. We have directed all of our chauffeurs who have shown symptoms to stay at home and not perform any rides.
Do I need to wear a face mask/covering?
In many countries face masks are seen as an important way of minimizing transmission when social distancing cannot be maintained. Please listen to the official advice in the country you are traveling in.
Will my driver help me with my luggage?
Chauffeurs will still help you with your luggage as usual. If you wish to handle your luggage yourself, your driver will still be on hand to open and close the trunk for you. They will also open and close the door for you, so you do not need to touch those surfaces.
