How do I rent a car from Zity in the SIXT app?

To rent Zity carsharing cars, you need the latest version of the SIXT app. Open the "Share" tab to find all available carsharing cars in the area. You can rent and unlock your vehicle directly via the app and start your trip. You can leave the business area during your journey, but returning your car at the end of the rental period is only possible within the business area. 

What conditions apply for Zity carsharing cars in the SIXT app?

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Valid for Milan: In Milan a min. Drivers Licence Holding Period of 1 year is required
  • Valid driver's license for vehicles with manual and automatic gear shifts 
  • Registration in the app and account activation by SIXT
  • The latest version of the SIXT app 
  • Valid credit card for payments 

In which countries and cities can I book a Zity cars in the SIXT app?

Currently, Zity vehicles are available in Spain (Madrid), and Italy (Milan).

How do I start a trip with a Zity car?

  • Open the "Share" tab in the SIXT app to view all available vehicles. When you find a suitable car, you can reserve it up to 20 minutes free of charge or rent it directly. 
  • Once you are nearby the reserved vehicle, simply unlock it with a click in the SIXT app.
  • Renault ZOE: hold the brake down, set the driving stick on “P” and press the “START/STOP” button on the right of the steering wheel. When you start the vehicle, you will see the word “READY” on the vehicle’s dashboard.
  • Dacia Spring: hold the brake down, make sure you’re on the “N” position, turn the key all the way (the key is already inserted). When you start the vehicle, you will see the word “OK” on the dashboard.

What driver’s licences are accepted by Zity?

All European driver’s licences. Valid driver’s licences issued outside the European Union and/or the European Economic Area will not be accepted. 

How long can I reserve a vehicle for?

You can reserve the vehicle for free up to 20 minutes before you start driving it. If your reservation has expired, you will not be able to reserve the same vehicle until after 30 minutes later. If you are next to the car, you will be able to open it directly. 

Ready to begin your trip?

  • Check the vehicle for any pre-existing damage before starting your journey. If you want to report a new damage, please call Zity’s customer service. Please report only damages larger than the size of a credit card.
  • Enter your PIN in the SIXT app to unlock the vehicle. 
  • During your trip, you can leave the Zity business area, always respecting the driving code and Zity’s Rental Terms & Conditions (T&C). Returning your car at the end of the rental period is only possible within the business area.
  • Please pay attention to the car’s battery level as vehicles must be returned with a minimum battery range of 10 km. If you end a trip and the vehicle has a battery range of less than 10 km, this may result in economic penalties for you. The battery range of the vehicle is visible at all times on the vehicle’s dashboard. If the vehicle runs out of battery whilst driving, then park the vehicle and contact Zity’s customer service.

Can I park my Zity car during the rental period?

Yes. To park your car temporarily, press "Park" in the SIXT app to activate the parking mode. You pay a reduced price per minute in parking mode. For further information on pricing, please click here.

How do I end my Zity rental?

  • Before you end your trip, please make sure you are within the business area shown on the map.
  • Park the vehicle in permitted parking zones on public roads according to traffic regulations. For local parking regulations click here.
  • Renault ZOE: move the driving stick to position P (for “Parking”), apply the handbrake and press the “START/STOP” button on the right side of the steering wheel.
  • Dacia Spring: hold the brake down, turn the driving knob on the N position, turn the key all the way and pull the handbrake.
  • Check that the lights are switched off, all windows and doors are closed and that you removed all personal belongings before leaving the vehicle. 
  • Click "End journey" in the SIXT app to complete your trip.
  • Please note: Vehicles must be returned with a minimum battery range of 10 km. If you end a trip and the vehicle has a battery range of less than 10 km, this may result in economic penalties for the user. The battery range of the vehicle is visible at all times on the vehicle’s dashboard. If the vehicle runs out of battery whilst driving, then park the vehicle and contact Zity’s customer service. The total of my Zity rental is not correct – what should I do?

How do I recharge my Zity car?

  • You do not have to recharge the Zity vehicles. It is important to leave the vehicle with a battery range of at least 10km. If you end a trip and the vehicle has a battery range of less than 10 km, this may result in economic penalties for the user. The battery range of the vehicle is visible at all times on the vehicle’s dashboard.
  • If the vehicle runs out of battery whilst driving, then park the vehicle and contact Zity’s customer service. Please follow Zity’s T&Cs for more information.

How does Zity calculate the price?

With Zity you pay per minute with a dynamic rate. Current prices are displayed in the SIXT app at the time of booking. An hourly flat rate is automatically applied. The max. hourly package is 72 hours, beyond that time the per-minute rate will be applied again. For trips to the airport, Zity automatically applies the effective airport tarif.
