The Hawaiian Islands are an archipelago of eight islands in the Pacific Ocean, each with unique experiences to offer. Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and the largest city in this U.S. state. Its diverse districts range from the historic downtown with its financial and governmental buildings to the beach paradise Waikiki. The city is set against the mountainous backdrop of Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve which is a great area for hiking and contains the infamous Manoa Falls.
Kahului is the biggest urban center on Maui, it is serviced by a port and Kahului Airport and is also the main shopping destination on the island. While visiting, Kanaha Beach Park is recommended for surfing, picnics and barbeques, Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is nice for the excellent array of native plants and Maui Arts and Cultural Center for some local and international arts events.
Hilo is another of the largest towns in Hawaii and is known as a gateway to the Volcanoes National Park with its rainforests and the Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes. Also in close proximity is the Wailuku River State Park that is famous for its spectacular Rainbow Falls. The waterfall throws a spectacular mist that draws thousands of visitors.
