Starting your SIXT rental is straightforward — press the brake pedal and the start/stop button, or use the key found in the glove compartment or center console. The steps below cover electric, automatic, and manual vehicles.
Starting an electric vehicle
Locate the key in the glove compartment or center console.
Press the brake pedal, then push the start/stop button — or use the key as directed by the vehicle.
Check that the car is on; electric vehicles run silently, so there's no engine sound to confirm it.
Tips for driving electric
Stay alert around pedestrians and cyclists. Electric cars are very quiet, and other road users may not hear you approaching.
Anticipate early. Plan your braking and acceleration ahead of time to maximize range.
Use high-drain features sparingly. Heating, air conditioning, and audio systems draw significant power — use them only when needed to preserve battery charge.
Starting an automatic transmission car
Press and hold the brake pedal.

Where is the car key?
The key is in the glove compartment or center console. Return it to the same location at the end of your rental. If you can't find the key in either spot, contact SIXT customer service right away.
