How am I insured abroad?

Your SIXT share insurance applies abroad just as it does at home. If damage occurs, you pay only the standard deductible — no additional deposit is required. Before you leave, check the traffic regulations for your destination country independently.

What do I do if I have an accident abroad?

  1. Call the police immediately, regardless of who caused the accident or whether another party was involved.

  2. Contact SIXT share customer service right away — stay on site until you have done so.

  3. Collect all information needed to assess the incident; as the renter, you are responsible for providing this to SIXT.

  4. Your rental period ends only once the vehicle has been returned. If the car is no longer drivable, the rental ends after you have spoken with customer service and handed the vehicle over to the towing company.

  5. Send your written accident report or the completed SIXT damage report form — ideally with photos of all damage and the incident location — along with the police file number to:

How do I refuel or charge abroad?

SIXT covers refueling and charging costs abroad, just as it does at home.

  • Refueling: Select a partner gas station through the SIXT app and follow the in-app instructions — payment is handled automatically. Manual refueling at non-partner stations cannot be reimbursed.

  • Charging: SIXT covers charging costs for SIXT share trips abroad, but only when you charge through the SIXT share tab. Charging via the SIXT charge tab will not be reimbursed.

What should I check before driving abroad?

  • Check the traffic regulations for your destination country before you leave.

  • Plan your trip for a maximum of 27 days.

  • Reserve your SIXT share vehicle through the SIXT app — free overnight reservations are available Sunday through Thursday between 10 PM and 6 AM.

  • Bring your own child seat if needed; none are provided in the vehicle.

  • Confirm that a warning triangle, warning vests (one per passenger), and a valid first-aid kit are in the vehicle before departure.

  • All parking fees, tolls, and motorway vignettes are your responsibility and are not refundable.

  • Avoid parking in underground garages or enclosed car parks — a reliable internet connection is not guaranteed there.

Can I end my trip abroad?

No. You cannot end your SIXT share rental abroad through the app. Drive the vehicle back to the rental country and return it to the operating area or a SIXT station. Additional fees apply if you end the rental in a different operating area, at a SIXT station, or abroad.
