Why is my credit card not working with SIXT Share?

Credit Card

All information about Credit Card

Most credit card issues with SIXT Share come down to one of three things: a failed security check when adding your card, a declined deposit hold before a rental, or a delay in releasing reserved funds after your rental ends. Here's how to handle each one.

Can't add your credit card?

When you add a new credit card to your account, SIXT runs an automatic security check. If the check fails, your card will be declined. Contact your credit card provider directly — they can tell you why the check didn't pass and help you resolve it.

Can't complete a vehicle reservation?

Before every rental, SIXT places a hold on your credit card for the expected rental amount plus a security deposit. Here's how the deposit works:

  • The deposit is at least $30 [PLEASE VERIFY: source states €30 — confirm correct currency for US market], based on the expected rental price.
  • If the rental price isn't known upfront (for example, if you're on a per-minute rate), the deposit is at least $30 [PLEASE VERIFY: same as above].
  • If you book a package, the deposit equals the package price shown in the app at the time of booking, plus a buffer to cover any extra time or additional services.

Your reservation can only go through once the hold is confirmed. If your card is declined, contact your credit card provider — they can confirm whether the hold was blocked on their end.

Reserved funds haven't been released yet?

SIXT automatically releases any held amounts once your rental payment is settled. How quickly the funds clear depends on your card issuer and can take a few days. Unfortunately, SIXT has no control over that timeline — your bank is the right contact if you need an update.
