What should I do if I have an accident in a SIXT Share vehicle?

Accident

All information about Accident

If you're involved in an accident or damage event in a SIXT Share vehicle, call emergency services first if anyone is injured, then follow the steps below before leaving the scene.

What to do at the scene

  1. Call the police immediately. Every accident or damage event must be reported to the police on the spot — regardless of who caused it or whether another party is involved.
  2. Call SIXT Share customer service from the scene before you leave. You can reach the team via the SIXT Share contact page. As the renter, you are responsible for making sure SIXT has all the information needed to assess the incident.
  3. Document everything. Take photos of all damage and the location of the incident.
  4. Submit your accident report. Send your written accident report or the completed SIXT damage form — including photos and the police file number — to SIXT Share customer service.

When does the rental end?

The rental ends only when the vehicle is returned. If the vehicle is no longer roadworthy, the rental ends when you transfer it to the towing company — but only after agreeing this with SIXT customer service first.

What is the deductible if I cause damage?

All SIXT Share minute, hour, and daily rates include comprehensive and theft insurance with a deductible of €950 per damage event. You can lower this deductible by adding a protection option in the SIXT app before or at the time of reservation — the current price for the protection option is shown in the app for your selected vehicle.

Why consider the reduced-deductible option?

  • The comprehensive and theft insurance covers accident damage you cause to the rental car.
  • Theft protection covers you if the vehicle is stolen.
  • Without any coverage upgrade, you are liable for vehicle damage up to the full value of the car, plus additional recoverable costs such as depreciation and expert fees — unless the damage is demonstrably caused by a third party.

Please note: Comprehensive insurance coverage can be reduced or voided in cases of grossly negligent or intentional damage, or grossly negligent or intentional breach of your contractual obligations.
