Upon handover of the vehicle, the renter and the driver must present a personal identification card or passport, a driving licence from an EU/EEA country (including Switzerland) - valid within national territory and required to drive the vehicle - and a payment method valid at least 30 days from the vehicle return and accepted by Sixt.
To verify the validity of a driving licenses, the original driving license must be presented.
Photocopies and digital licenses will not be accepted.
Foreign national driver's licences in languages other than German and issued in a state other than a EU/EEA member state or Switzerland that do not conform with the provisions of Annex 6 to the Convention on Road Traffic dated 8 November 1968 must be affixed to a translation unless the Federal Republic waives the requirement that the license be accompanied by a translation. The translation must be provided by an internationally recognised automobile association from the issuing state or a body designated by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. If the issuing state issues an international driver's licence it suffices to present the international driver's licence together with the original driver's licence without having to provide a translation.
Sixt supports Chinese customers with the necessary translations via Sixt WeChat Account or via following link: Link. This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.
Driving licences from non-EU/non-EEA countries will be accepted if a) no visa is entered in the passport of the renter/driver, or b) the renter/driver has a visa in their passport and at the time of rental has not yet stayed in an EU/EEA country for longer than 6 months. If the driver has been in an EU/EEA country for longer than 6 months, a driving licence from an EU/EEA country must be presented.
Exception: Driving licences from Ukraine are accepted regardless of the date of entry due to the current situation (protection status until 03/2027).

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle. Basically, the minimum age for every driver is 18 years (having held the driver's license for at least 1 day). A deviation from the minimum age is possible depending on the vehicle.
A young driver surcharge (Young Driver Surcharge) applies for drivers under 23 years.
Sixt accepts credit and debit cards as well as digital wallets by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB and credit cards by China Union Pay. PayPal is accepted for prepaid bookings at selected locations. The use of PayPal and the PayPal website is subject to the applicable PayPal terms and conditions. A credit or debit card must be presented on pick-up of the vehicle to make a security deposit. The renter must be the PayPal account holder. Apple Digital wallet is accepted for Prepaid bookings, and Digital checkout at selected locations. Debit cards or prepaid cards cannot be used for payments via Apple Pay. The use of Apple Pay is subject to the applicable Apple terms and conditions. At pick up of the vehicle customers must either present a credit or debit card or use Apple Pay (if available) at the counter to make a security deposit. Prepaid cards cannot be accepted as a method of payment. Sixt only accepts Maestro/V PAY cards for the hiring of vans and trucks, as well as vehicles of groups M***/E***/C***/D***/I***/J***/S***/F***/P*** (excluding Special Cars and Sports & Luxury Cars).
Payment with a Maestro/V PAY card is not permitted for mobile check-in and long-term hire. The method of payment must be issued in the name of a renter, presented upon collection of the vehicle, and be valid for at least another 30 days from this point in time. Sixt reserves the right to only accept credit card payments in combination with the PIN. For business customers with which Sixt has entered into a framework contract, Sixt also accepts virtual payment methods, such as AirPlus and Amex BTA/iBTA. Requirements for the above are hereby (i) the existence of a valid framework contract, (ii) a cost absorption declaration for future rental under the terms of this framework contract, and (iii) a reservation with a customer number related to the framework contract.
All truck vehicle groups can also be hired with a Maestro-/VPAY-Card. Maestro-/VPAY-Card cannot be used to pay for long-term hiring.
Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid means of payment.
Cash Payment is not accepted.
As security, the means of payment is debited with a deposit amount (rental amount + EUR 200.00).
When booking a prepaid tariff, the payment method will be immediately debited with the expected rental price incl. booked extras and fees (gross). The driver and payment details will be set upon reservation and cannot be changed. There will be no reimbursement in the event of non-collection, delayed vehicle collection, or early return.
Subject to availability, changes to bookings are possible up to a maximum of 1 hour before the collection time specified in the current reservation, with a rebooking fee of EUR 29.99. A reimbursement of the rental price already paid, or a reimbursement of any difference, will not take place upon changes to the booking.
A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.
Cancellation is possible before the start of the rental. In the event of a cancellation, a cancellation fee will be charged to the rental advance payment already made. Cancellation fees will in no case exceed the total amount paid in advance. Cancellations prior to the scheduled start of the rental period will incur a cancellation fee of EUR 99.00. Any remaining prepaid amount in excess of EUR 99.00 will be refunded.
Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.
In the event of failure to collect the booked vehicle at the agreed time, the rental price specified in the current booking confirmation must be paid in full. The reservation obligation of Sixt remains in this case until the agreed return time.

The protection for the vehicle rented includes a third party insurance with the sum insured for personal injury and damage amounting to a maximum of EUR 100 million, the maximum limit of indemnity for each injured person amounts to EUR 12 million and is limited to Europe.
Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) reduces the lessee's responsibility to a certain defined excess in the event of damage caused by an accident or by loss of the rental vehicle.
In addition, a reduction of the deductible is possible.
In the event of intentional or grossly negligent damage/violation of duties under the rental contract, the entitlement to the loss damage waiver (including theft cover) may be reduced or voided.
If no loss damage waiver (incl. theft cover) has been arranged, the lessee is responsible for all damage to the rental vehicle not proven to be caused by a third party, and shall be liable for up to the full value of the vehicle plus further recoverable damages (e.g. reduction in value, expert assessor fees, etc.).
By selecting interior protection, liability can be reduced to a deductible of EUR 150 if the vehicle interior is soiled or damaged.
By adding Personal Accident Insurance or Travel Personal Accident Insurance, cover can also be extended to the personal consequences of an accident. Further information is provided during the booking process or via the following link: Link.
The Tyre and Windscreen Protection provides protection for damages on tyres, windscreen, side windows and the rear window with a deductible of EUR 0.00.
If no tyre or windscreen cover is agreed, the renter will be liable up to the full extent of the damage.
The mobility service is an extended breakdown cover during the rental and protects against high service fees and repair costs in the following self-caused events, within national territory and on authorised travel abroad: key locked inside the vehicle, loss of keys, getting stuck, jump start in the event of an empty battery and breakdown due to lack of fuel or electricity.
All services must only be requested by using the Sixt 24-hour roadside assistance. This assistance also determines the type and extent of the cover, with the objective of keeping the renter mobile. Unless caused by Sixt itself within the framework of the mobility service, the renter is liable for damage to the rental vehicle.
The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into four zones.
Zone I: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican
Zone II: Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia
Zone III: Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania
Zone IV: All countries that are not in zone I, II or III.
All transporters and trucks are only allowed to enter countries in zone I and II.
In the case of commercial use, the vehicle (except groups A, BT, ST, WT, C, P, T) must not be used outside Germany.
Leaving the European continent is not permitted. This includes the Spanish exclaves of Ceuta & Melilla. The renter undertakes to comply with all official entry, exit and access authorisations.
The local transport of the vehicle by ferry is permitted in compliance with the above-mentioned entry restrictions. Damage to the vehicle during the crossing will be covered according to the protection booked in the rental contract.
In case of offence against cross border and territorial restrictions all liability restrictions lose their validity. Only the protection of the liability insurance remains.
For permitted journeys abroad in accordance with the above-mentioned entry restrictions, Sixt will charge the contractually agreed travel abroad fee as part of the booking process (selectable under "Extras"). This fee applies independent of the return location and, in the case of a one-way rental, in addition to the one-way fee. For unauthorised use abroad, a contractual penalty of 150.00 euros will be payable.

One-way-rentals are allowed under conditions depending on tarif.
In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.
A fee will be charged for additional drivers, whereby only persons entered in the rental contract with a valid driving licence may drive the vehicle.
Baby seats, child seats and booster seats for children up to 12 years (61 to 150 cm) are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made.
If the vehicle has not been returned in a completely refuelled state, and if you have not booked the "Erste Tankfüllung" (Prepaid fuel) or "Fuelling service" extras, Sixt will charge you the fees in accordance with the tariffs applicable upon rental, for the fuelling of the vehicle and for fuel. The respectively valid tariffs are available at the Sixt branches.
"Erste Tankfüllung" (Prepaid fuel): You can purchase the "Prepaid fuel" extra at the comparable fuel station price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will not be charged any additional refuelling costs in accordance with the above paragraph. Please note that unused fuel will not be reimbursed.
Fuelling service: Subject to availability at the respective branch, you can book our "Fuelling service" at the specified price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will only be charged for the subsequently fuelled litres of fuel at comparable fuel station prices, in addition to the above-mentioned fee.
If commercial vehicles are equipped with an additional AdBlue tank, the vehicle will be handed over to the renter with a full AdBlue tank for a rental period of more than 27 days and must also be returned in this way, otherwise we will take over the re-fuelling of the vehicle after return under the conditions currently available at the station. If the rental period is less than 28 days, the renter will be charged a fee of 3.57 ct (VAT incl.) per kilometre driven.
We record the charge level of electric vehicles both at handover and return. If the charge level of the electric vehicle at handover was above 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a charge level of at least 80%. If the charge level of the vehicle at handover was below 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a corresponding charge level. If the electric vehicle is returned with a lower charge level, and if you have not booked the "Erste Tankfüllung/ Batterieladung" (Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge) or "Fuelling/Charging service" extras, a fee per kWh of missing battery capacity shall apply. The applicable rates are available at the Sixt stations.
For motor vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 tonnes, Sixt generally provides the hirer with an on-board unit (OBU) to enable automatic toll collection in accordance with the Federal Motorway Toll Act. Sixt settles the toll charges incurred for the respective rental period with the operator of the toll system, Toll Collect GmbH, or via its service provider. Sixt provides the renter with a list of the individual journeys subject to tolls together with the rental invoice. Sixt charges a flat fee of EUR 2.49 per recorded toll day, up to a maximum of EUR 51.17 per month, for the provision of the OBU and the associated billing costs.
Sack barrows and load-securing straps are subject to availability.
Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.
This service is available on request for an additional commitment fee outside opening times at selected locations.
The renter is obliged to report the vehicle back to SIXT at the end of the rental period.
Winter tyres are available at a suitable fee.
A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.
Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.
There will be a registration fee, which is included in the rent.
Unless the renter is a consumer as set forth in § 13 of the German Civil Code, Sixt charges a fee of EUR 33.92 for responding to requests for information about the driver in the context of culpable violations of traffic and regulatory provisions, possession offences and other violations of the law.
As a flexible mobility partner, we adapt to your plans subject to availability. Please inform us of any changes to your plans during the rental period by calling +49 (0)89- 66 060 060 or directly at one of our numerous branches. As far as possible for us, we will adjust the rental agreement with the help of our staff. In addition to fees arising from the modification (e.g. extra days / different return location), we charge a handling fee of EUR 5.00 per modification process for changes made to the return date, return time or return location. Alternatively, you have the option to waive the handling fee for rental changes at your SIXT station when picking up the rental car for a service fee of EUR 3.00. If you do not inform us of your intended rental changes, the following service fees will be charged:
If you return your vehicle before the end of the agreed rental period, we will charge the rental price in accordance with the rental agreement. If the vehicle is returned more than two days before the end of the agreed rental period, you will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.
When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.
If you return your vehicle later than agreed in the rental agreement, we will charge a usage fee for the additional time equal to the agreed price per rental day, provided the vehicle provided and the booked rate remain available and applicable for the relevant period. For minor return delays, we will charge a pro-rata amount of the daily rate. If your booking was part of a special rate (e.g. weekend or hourly rate) and its conditions are no longer met due to the late return, we will apply a usage fee for the additional time equal to our then-current standard rate. This may be higher than the special rate originally booked. If, through your own fault, you fail to inform us of the late return, we will charge, in addition to the usage fee, a service flat fee of EUR 28.56 for the Flexi Return Service. This does not apply if you prove that we incurred no expense and/or damage, or only a substantially lower expense and/or damage.
If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of max. EUR 39.99 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance.
All rates are inclusive of VAT (if VAT incurs). For corporate customers with individual agreements alternative prices and regulations can apply.
