Traffic Information

Driving in Bangkok is pretty much comparable to other big cities, where you will often encounter congestion. In general driving in Thailand is relatively easy with well-maintained highways that serve a lot of the country. One big difference for drivers from the US is that in Thailand driving is done on the left side. In terms of parking, look out for lots offered by malls, hotels and restaurants. It is not recommended to leave your car rental in crowded areas of Bangkok such as Siam Square.

Renting a car from our Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport branch puts you a little less than twenty miles outside of the city and will take about thirty to forty minutes to reach the center. Once in the city you will definitely want to take a drive along Sukhumit Road (Route 3), the longest road in Thailand. Many of the main hotels are found along this route as well as a plethora of great shopping, dining and nightlife destinations. Two other main motorways run through Bangkok, Phahonyothin Road (Route 1) and Phetkasem Road (Route 4). Kanchanaphisek National Highway (Route 9), or Outer Ring Road, loops around Bangkok and serves most of its satellite towns. Beach escapes to Pattaya are now easier thanks to the New Bangkok-Chonburi Motorway (Route 7).
