From Valencia:

Coming from the A70. Take the exit 68 towards N332 Alicante/Alacant. Continue straight on. At the roundabout take the exit towards Alicante and take the N332 to Alicante/Alacant. Continue on Avinguda de Denia N332 and keep driving in the right lane. Drive right into Calle l'Explanade and turn left onto the N322 and just turn right into the first street. Drive to the roundabout at the end of the road and take the last exit. Continue straight on until you arrive at the main entrance of the Hotel Melia.

From Murcia:

Take the exit 71 towards Alicante. Take the A31. Take the exit Alicante/Alacant N332 and continue straight. Drive left on Avenida de Elche/ N332 and continue straight until the end of the harbor. Turn right into the first street after the harbor and continue straighton to the roundabout at the end of the road. Take the last exit and continue until you arrive at the main entrance of the Hotel Melia.

07.11.2012- ALC %u2013 Alicante Airport

One of the most popular regions for vacations in Spain is the Costa Blanca Region. And therefore Alicante Airport is one of the busiest airports in Spain. Regarding the passenger statistics AlicanteAirport is in sixth place after Madrid, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Gran Canaria.
They began the construction of the airport in 1964 and it was opened 2 � years later. In 1970 approximately 1 million passengers passed through the airport. First extension measures were carried out soon afterwards in order to manage the growing demand in the Alicante Airport.
In 1996, more than 9 million passengers used the airport. This was the sign to plan a huge reconstruction and the Project "Nueva Aerea Terminal (NAT)". They built a new terminal building and a new parking garage, telescopic gangways have been installed and the runway was extended.
The new airport is designed for 20 million passengers and was opened in March 2011. The terminal area disposes of surplace shops, bars and restaurants, to ensure the passengers stay is as pleasant as possible.
The old terminals 1 and 2 are closed, though currently available for a possible reopening.
The airport has an excellent infrastructure: It is approx. 9 km from the town center of Alicante and has a direct connection to the national road N332 and the highway AP7.

24.09.2012- The Secrets of the Pearls

These days we distinguish between natural pearls which grow up in a shell without being effected by human beings and cultured pearls which are nowadays mainly used in jewelery shop's. The pearls growout of a foreign substance, which gets in to the interior of the shell. Sometimes it takes years until a pearl is grown. The most important criteria for finding out the value of a pearl is: it's shape, size, luster, quality and colour. The colour depends on the type of pearl oyster, their habitat and the water temperature. After removing the pearls from the shells, they can be coloured to almost any colour.
In Alicante there is a small jewelery store offering all these beautiful pearls: Jia Meng (Hall Hotel Melia). The owner can tell you so much more of the secrets of the pearls. Just have a look and take advantage of the special offers or come and rent a car with Sixt...
31.08.2012- The paella

The paella, a spanish rice dish, is the nacional dish for the region Valencia/Alicante. The term paella is coming from the latin word patella, which means big plate or flat metal bowl. Later thevalencians chose the word paella for the metal pan they used to prepare the nacional dish in. Nowadays only the dish is known under the word paella and the pan is called paellera.

What the typical paella valenciana consists of:
rice
chicken, pork ribs, rabbit
vegetables: grinded tomatoes, red bell pepper, grean beans and artichoke
spices: salt, garlic, rosemary and saffron

The easy preparation:

Heating olive oil in the pan, roast the meat during 10 minutes, then first add the garlic and afterwards the vegetables and the salt. Let all braise during another 10 minutes and add then the rice and mix it with the rest of the ingredients, add the saffron and a little bit of water or stock- but not too much. The water has to be absorbed by the rice until the dish is cooked. From now on you shouldn 't agitate teh paella any longer. Finally you add a twig of rosemary, which gives the dish it's typical mediterranean taste.

As the paella at the originally had been a dish of the %u201Epoor people%u201C and the saffron always had been expensive, the paella can be prepared with food coloring, which gives the dish it's typical color.

Addicionally you can serve some white bread- mhmmm- really tasty...
22.06.2012- Teahouses - something very special ...

Great restaurants, trendy bars and nice caf�s can be found in every city. But if you are looking for something special, you should visit one of the teahouses in and around Alicante. The tea houseshave a long tradition. Most teas are self-created and all the offered goodies are home-made according to old recipes. They offer black teas, white teas, fruity teas and teas with fancy tastes just like mint-chocolate or vanilla cream rooibos. You can order as well a cup of tea with a shot. The tea houses are usually small and have a homelike ambience. The prices seem a little expensive, but it is worthwhile! 10.05.2012- Weekly Markets in the Alicante area

The weekly markets in and around Alicante are traditional markets that take place in public locations including roads and parks that are provided by the municipalities for this purpose. Here you canbuy very cheap clothing and shoes. The models are mostly from last season, sometimes with small defects in materials %u2013 but that's why they are so cheap. On the markets you can also find all kindshousehold items (dishes, pillows, bedding, etc.) and furniture. Sometimes you can even pick up a real antique bargain. Most markets offer fruits and vegetables, too - directly from farmers.
What you need at the market is: patience, comfortable shoes and bargaining power - the salesmen know how to negotiate and you should never be satisfied with the first given price!

Throughout the week there are lots of markets - every day with a different location. Here are a few examples:

In the smaller markets there are around 200 - 350 dealers offering their products, and on bigger markets, there are up to 1,200 stalls. All the markets open in the morning - between 8:00 and 14:00 o'clock. The best offers for fruits and vegetables you will get at the very end of the day as the salesmen reduce their prices to get rid of the products.
