The renter and all approved drivers must be in possession of a full, valid driving licence for at least 2 years. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.
The driver has to be in possession of a valid, unendorsed driving license.
An international driving license is not required, provided the original license is in English.
For driver's licenses from countries not part of the international driver's license treaty an official translation is required.
Sixt supports Chinese customers with the necessary translations via Sixt WeChat Account or via following link: Link . This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.
Please show a valid driver's license and ID card/ passport at time of pick up.
Photocopies, digital licenses, Learner's Permits, and driver's licenses with driving restrictions will not be accepted.
In South Africa, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

The following cards are accepted: all credit and debit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa. We do not accept any prepaid cards. The renter must be the owner of the indicated credit card and debit cards are subject to additional fees (see Other fees and taxes).
Sixt CarExpress Service Card (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.
Cheques are not accepted. Cash Payment is not accepted.
Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card.
As security, the means of payment is debited with a deposit amount. The amount of the deposit depends on the vehicle group of the rented vehicle and according to the following table:

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.
Changing Booking A prepaid booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 500,00 ZAR. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.
Cancellation
A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, which will be withheld and shall be in the amount of the rental charge ( including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.
No-show In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.
Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at the time of the event giving rise to claim.
Rates do include Third Party Protection.
Protection coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of 250.000,00 ZAR per event for Third party injuries and liabilities.
The customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 20.000,00 ZAR.
If purchased, the Supplemental Liability Protection (SLI) eliminates the excess of 20.000,00 ZAR of third party property damages.
If SLI is accepted, the renter is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 ZAR.
This coverage supplies Renter with third-party liability protection up to a limit of 18.000.000,00 ZAR per accident.
If purchased Supplemental Liability Protection (SLI) protects the renter against claims made by a third party for -bodily injury- and/or property damages sustained as a result of an accident while the renter is operating a -rental vehicle-.
Supplemental Liability Protection (SLI) does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a rental vehicle. SLI does not cover all risks. There may be exclusions for unauthorized or intoxicated drivers, no first party uninsured motorist coverage, no coverage for certain passengers in the vehicle, and other exclusions.
Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) reduces the lessee's responsibility to a certain defined excess in the event of damage caused by an accident or by loss of the rental vehicle.

By taking out insurance protection for the interior, liability in the event of damage or soil to the vehicle interior can be reduced to a predetermined deductible or eliminated.
The tyre and windscreen coverage provides protection for damages on tires and windscreen with a deductible of ZAR 0.00.
If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.
Renter shall be entitled to use the rental vehicle exclusively in the territory of South Africa; unless the Agreement states otherwise: "Zone 1" - Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini -1,600.00 ZAR per country; "Zone 2" - Mozambique - 3,500.00 ZAR per country;
A written permission issued by the SANI Sixt branch is mandatory to cross the border of Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho and Eswatini. Please note that a 72-hour notice period is required. Without prior notice, waiting times of up to 5 hours at the counter may apply. For pre-approval, please email crossborder@sanisixt.co.za.
Due to ongoing border policy reviews, please enquire in advance as to which vehicles may be permitted to cross the South African borders. Please note that restrictions also apply to certain countries.
In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity.
Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability.
One-way rentals within SANI SIXT locations in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana are allowed under conditions depending on tariff.
Not listed countries are prohibited for One-Way Rentals.
In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.
A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.
Child seats are available subject to a fee.
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to SANI Sixt, otherwise the current prices per litre of petrol or diesel will be charged in addition to a refuelling fee.
When a vehicle is returned, we top up the tank irrespective of what the fuel gauge reflects. This ensures that each renter receives a full tank.
Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.
The renter is obliged to report the vehicle back to SIXT at the end of the rental period.
A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.
Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.
The renter is liable for payment of all traffic/parking fines occurring during the rental.
If the renter has a traffic/parking fine during the rental the renter will be charged an Administration Fee together with the first settlement-proposition.
A Contract Fee applies on all rentals.
In case the car requires a special cleaning procedure (i.e. smell removal, animal pollution, spill of liquids etc.) after returning, a cleaning charge will apply.
Administrative costs applied for processing international and local debit cards.
