The driver has to be in possession of a valid driving license for at least 1 year. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.
If the renter or driver has been in El Salvador for longer than 3 months, he needs to present a driving license issued in El Salvador.
Driving licenses printed with non Roman alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an International driving license.
Please show your valid ID card or passport and driver license at time of pick up.
Photocopies, digital licenses, Learner's Permits, and driver's licenses with driving restrictions will not be accepted.
Minimum age in El Salvador is 18 years old.
Driver has to be in possession of a valid driving license for at least 1 year.
Apart from this, the following restrictions for minimum age and possession of a valid driving licence are valid:

A Young Driver Surcharge applies for drivers under 21 years.
A surcharge of 7.85 USD per day applies for drivers below 21 years (AE) and above 75 years (AY) (for car all groups).
The following credit cards are accepted: all credit cards from internationally recognized credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Discover, Mastercard and Visa. We do not accept any prepaid cards, virtual credit cards or debit cards (Visa Electron, Revolut, etc.). The renter must be the owner of the indicated credit card at reservation.
Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid credit or debit card.
Cash Payment (in local currency or US Dollars) and traveller's checks are accepted. However, please note that a credit card for guarantee purposes must be presented on collection of the vehicle. Virtual credit cards are not accepted for rental security deposit.
Please be aware that security deposits are only accepted with valid credit cards, if needed, with the PIN.
An advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security deposit. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle and the rental length. Cash deposits are not accepted.

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.
Changing Booking A prepaid booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 27,00 USD. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.
Cancellation
A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, which will be withheld and shall be in the amount of the rental charge (including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.
No-show In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.
None of the below mentioned protections includes a road assistance service. All transfer costs of any damaged rented vehicle as a result of an accident or driver behaviour have to be assumed by the renter.
Sixt Rent a Car El Salvador does not accept Car Rental Insurance, third party liability insurance or other protections offered by third party companies that are not fully registered and authorized by the Government of El Salvador to provide this type of service within our borders.
TI is mandatory in El Salvador.
Maximum cover for third-party personal injuries is 5,000 USD per person injured and up to 10,000 USD per accident. Maximum cover for third-party material damage is 10,000 USD per car per event.
The customer is only responsible for the following amounts: a deductible amount of 300.00 USD.
Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods.Coverage does not apply if driving through rivers, on beach or in contact with salt water. All protection cover as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at thetime of the event giving rise to claim.
Liability Insurance (TI) does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a -rental vehicle-. TI does not cover all risks. There may be exclusions for unauthorized or intoxicated drivers,no first party uninsured motorist coverage, no coverage for certain passengers in the vehicle and other exclusions as stated in the protection policy.
If purchased, the Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) eliminates the excess of 300.00 USD of third party property damages.
If purchased Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) protects the renter against claims made by a third party for -bodily injury- and/or property damages sustained as a result of an accident while the renter is operating a -rental vehicle-.
Maximum extra coverage for third party personal injuries and third-party material damages is 200,000 USD per car event.
If SLI is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amounts: USD 0.00

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.
If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 800.00 USD - ECAR, MCAR 1,000.00 USD - CFAR, IFAR, SFAR 2,000.00 USD - SPAR
LDW waiver is mandatory in El Salvador, but can be declined if the customer uses his credit card car rental protection. (Only possible with American Express, Master Card or Visa.) With this act, the customer declares that fully understood the details of the car rental insurance program from his credit card and that he is aware that it covers the type of car rented in El Salvador.
If LDW is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.
If the customer decides to use the car rental insurance provided by their credit card, a letter of proof from the credit card company is required, confirming that LDW/CDW is valid for all roads in El Salvador and covers the type of car rented from SIXT.
Excluded from the coverage are damages on tyres and rims.
Excluded from the protection is driving through rivers, on beach or the contact with salt water.
If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Top Cover LDW to reduce the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.
If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) with reduced excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 400.00 EUR - ECAR, MCAR 500.00 EUR - CFAR, IFAR, SFAR 1,000.00 EUR - SPAR
If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess to reduce/eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.
If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) with reduced excess is accepted, the lessee is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 USD.
Tire and Windscreen Coverage provides cover against the consequences of damages on tires, windscreen, side windows, back window, mirror glass, wheel covers and rims.
If TG is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of damages on tires, windscreen, side windows and back window. If TG is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 USD
By selecting interior protection, liability can be reduced to a predetermined deductible or eliminated if the vehicle interior is soiled or damaged.
Cross Border Rentals are not allowed.
In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity.
Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability.
One-way rentals within Sixt locations in El Salvador are allowed under conditions depending on tarif.
International One-Way Rentals are not allowed.
In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.
A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.
Baby seats and child seats are available subject to a fee.
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise the current prices per litre of petrol or diesel will be charged in addition to a refuelling fee.
Fuelling service: Subject to availability at the respective branch, you can book our "Fuelling service" at the specified price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will only be charged for the subsequently fuelled litres of fuel at comparable fuel station prices, in addition to the above-mentioned fee.
Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.
This service is available on request for an additional commitment fee outside opening times at selected locations.
The renter is obliged to report the vehicle back to SIXT at the end of the rental period.
If you purchase the optional Road Assistance, we will provide you with breakdown assistance (where available).
Road Assistance includes: Tow truck in case of an accident and/or mechanical problems, Jumpstart, Loss of key: Service to bring a copy of the key (key loss fee will apply, depending on zone, may apply an additional cost) Leaving key in car: Service to open up the car (depending on zone, may apply an additional cost) Road Assistance excludes: Negligence, Changing tires, Rescue because of empty tank, Car rescue, when ... ...caused while driving under the influence of a drug or alcohol ...caused by an Unauthorized Driver ...caused by driving on beach shores ...caused by driving through estuaries ...caused by driving through rivers ...caused by driving through or by ocean.
No Premium location fee for rentals at airport and train stations applies.
Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.
There will be a road tax, which is included in the rent.
In case the car requires a special cleaning procedure (i.e. smell removal, animal pollution, spill of liquids etc.) after returning, a cleaning charge will apply.
A Loss of Key Fee of at least 200.00 USD applies, depending on the vehicle group. The delivery of the keys will be charged additionally. Loss of the license plate Fee will apply of 300.00 USD. Loss of the car documents Fee will apply of 50.00 USD.
The car key delivery fee depends on the distance calculated from the Sixt Headquarters in El Salvador.
The rentee is liable for payment of all traffic/parking fines occurring during the rental.
The rentee who is not a consumer will be charged an administrative fee for indicating user data to the authority.
Plans can change. As a flexible mobility partner, we are happy to adapt to your plans. Thanks to our Flexi Return guarantee, you have the freedom to return the vehicle at any time to an authorised Sixt station, regardless of the rental agreement. If your plans change during your hire period, let us know by telephone on +503 70200776/ customerservice@sixtelsalvador.com or in person at any of our stations, and our employees will amend your rental contract. By doing this, we can adapt to your changed plans. This service is, of course, free of charge for you.
If you return your vehicle earlier than agreed in the rental contract, we will charge the rental price according to the rental contract. You will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.
When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.
If you return the vehicle later, without notifying us, we will bill you USD 11.30 service fee for the Flexi Return Service. This fee applies in addition to any extra days which might incur due to the rental extension.
If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of USD 18.08 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance. With our Flexi Return guarantee, you will always have maximum flexibility and cost-efficiency when driving.
