Rental Information

The vehicle renter confirms and undertakes that the rental vehicle will be used solely for the Renter´s own economic activities and will not be used to provide freight transport services for compensation to third parties. The vehicle renter acknowledges that, in accordance with Article 3(h) of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Regulation does not apply to vehicles from 2.5 t to 3.5 t when the transport is carried out as own-account transport and driving is not the driver´s main occupation. The vehicle renter is aware that the rental status of the vehicle does not affect the applicability of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 - the decisive factor is the nature of the transport and the actual use of the vehicle. If Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 does not apply, the vehicle is not required to be equipped with a tachograph. The vehicle renter assumes full responsibility for compliance with the relevant legal requirements, including ensuring that no commercial transport is carried out within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006.

The lessee and the driver must be in possession of a full, valid driver's license for at least one year and present it together with an identity card or passport while receiving delivery of the vehicle. Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving licence.

The driver´s license must be valid and issued by: - member country of EU/EEA & switzerland - participant of the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic - the driving license is acceptable without additional documentation if it is in Roman script, otherwise an International Driving Permit is mandatory; - participant of the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic - International Driving Permit is mandatory. The International Driving Permit alone is not acceptable unless it is accompanied by a valid national driver´s license.

Participants of the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Central African Republic, Costa Rica, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Georgia, Guyana, Holy See, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Mexico, Monaco, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Niger, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, San Marino, Senegal, Serbia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe. Participants of the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Laos, Lebanon, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Republic of South Korea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Sri Lanka , Syria, Thailand, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uganda, United States of America and Venezuela.

Driving license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an International driving license.

Photocopies, digital licenses, Learner's Permits, and driver's licenses with driving restrictions will not be accepted.

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle. Basically, the minimum age for every driver is 19 years (having held the driving license for at least 1 year). A deviation from the minimum age is possible depending on the vehicle. In Latvia, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

A surcharge applies for young drivers under 21years.

All credit cards and debit cards from internationally recognized credit card companies - such as American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, Discovery, JCB are acceptable as payment methods whereas all prepaid cards are not accepted. Sixt also accepts AirPlus as payment. The payment method must have been issued in the name of the driver. This must be presented at the time of vehicle pick-up and be valid at this time. The renter must be the owner of the indicated creditcard. The authorised driver details and method of payment will be confirmed at reservation stage and cannot be amended. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.

Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card.

An advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle.

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

Changing booking

Changing Booking A prepaid booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 20,00 EUR. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of cancellation, the payment already made towards the rental will be paid back subject to a cancellation charge. The cancellation charge shall be the amount of the rental charge ( including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.

No-show

In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Protection coverage for the vehicle includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of 5,000,000.00 EUR for personal injuries. Maximum cover for material damages is 1,000,000.00 EUR. The hirer is liable up to the maximum amount of liability for accidents caused by the hirer, damage caused by parking, theft or any damage caused by an unknown third party.

Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Excluded from the protection is driving the vehicle in prohibited areas set by official order or driving the vehicle in off-road terrains.

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amounts:

550.00 EUR - A, B, S, W, AX

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.

Excluded from the coverage are damages on tyres and windows.

If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with reduced excess to reduce the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.

If Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with reduced excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 350.00 EUR - A, B, S, W, AX

If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess to eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.

If Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 EUR

The tire and glass coverage provides protection for damages on tires and windscreen with a deductible of EUR 0.00.

If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.

Roadside Protection is an extended breakdown cover during the rental, and protects against high service fees and costs in the following accidental events within national territory and on authorized travel abroad: towing services due to broken tire or accident, key locked inside the vehicle, loss of keys before car return, getting stuck, jump start in the event of an empty battery and breakdown due to lack of fuel or electricity.

If Roadside Protection is not accepted, customer is held liable for the full value of all service costs. Roadside Protection does not cover any damages to the rental vehicle. If the car is returned to SIXT without car keys, the rental charge will continue to occur until the keys have been returned to the rental return branch by the customer. Roadside Protection does not cover any costs related to the key return.

All services must only be requested by using the Sixt 24-hour roadside assistance. This assistance also determines the type and extent of the cover with the objective of keeping the renter mobile, and for example jump starting a vehicle without presence of roadside assistance staff is prohibited.

Traveling by ferry is allowed and in case of accident between vehicles on the ferry board all costs will be covered by Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). Please find more information about LDW under Protection conditions.

Renter shall be entitled to use the rental vehicle exclusively in the territory of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia; unless the Agreement states otherwise: "Zone 0" - the territory of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are allowed without additional approval by Sixt (0 EUR) "Zone 1" - territory of the abovementioned countries and the territory of Poland and Finland- 150.00 EUR (one hundred fifty euros) per rental; "Zone 2" - Zone 1 and the territory of Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Netherlands, Luxemburg, Slovakia, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria, Bosnia &Hercegovina, France, Croatia, Italy, Lichtenstein, Norway, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, Switzerland and Vatican - 300.00 EUR (three hundred euros) per rental; "Zone 3" - Zone 2 and the territory of Andorra, Greece, Monaco, Portugal, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Spain - 500.00 EUR (five hundred) per rental; Border crossing and vehicle usage in the territories of Russia (incl. Kaliningrad), Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Albania, Malta, Turkey, Ireland, United Kingdom and any other country shall be strictly forbidden. If the vehicle is used outside Agreement territory, Sixt shall be entitled to immediately terminate the Agreement without any sanctions on behalf of the Renter. Renter shall certify that it has been warned that terms and conditions of the Agreement regarding personal liability, insurance, technical assistance, damage prevention, and/or replacement vehicle shall not apply if the vehicle is used outside the territories specified in the Agreement and/or insurance policy. In such case the vehicle insurance, technical assistance, damage prevention, and/or replacement vehicle shall be available for an additional charge. For permitted cross border travel, the cross border fee selected under "add-ons" during the booking process will apply. This fee is charged regardless of the vehicle´s return location.

Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability. During the period of November 1st until April 1st snow tyres exist for all car groups.

One-Way Rentals within Sixt locations in Latvia are up to 160,00 EUR.

All international One-Way Rentals are on request. Please contact the local rental station.

In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.

Navigation systems are available subject to a fee.

If Apple CarPlay / Android Auto is booked, we guarantee that the renter receives a car with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatibility. Possibly required high grade data cable to connect the phone and the car is not provided by SIXT.

A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.

Baby seats, child seats and booster seats are available subject to a fee.

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise an additional charge for the used fuel will be charged.

Alternatively, you may purchase a tankful of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

Fuelling service: Subject to availability at the respective branch, you can book our "Fuelling service" at the specified price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will only be charged for the subsequently fuelled litres of fuel at comparable fuel station prices, in addition to the above-mentioned fee.

We record the charge level of electric vehicles both at handover and return. If the charge level of the electric vehicle at handover was above 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a charge level of at least 80%. If the charge level of the vehicle at handover was below 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a corresponding charge level.

If the electric vehicle is returned with a lower charge level and you have not chosen prepaid electricity upon vehicle pick-up, a charge of EUR 1.20 per kWh of missing battery capacity will apply. If the electric vehicle is returned with a battery charge level below 20%, an additional fee of EUR 200.00 will apply.

Prepaid electricity: When picking up the fully electric vehicle, you can purchase optional prepaid electricity at a price comparable to charging the vehicle at a charging station, and return the vehicle at any charge level. In this case, you will not be charged for the additional charging costs stated above. Please note that unused capacity will not be refunded.

Delivery/Collection Service is on request. Please contact the local rental station.

Bluetooth is available subject to a fee.

A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.

Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.

If the renter has a traffic/parking fine during the rental the renter will be charged an Administration Fee together with the first settlement-proposition.

The renter is liable for payment of all traffic/parking fines occuring during the rental.

All Latvian Sixt cars are non-smoking cars. If a car needs additional cleaning/smell-removal caused by excessive dirt and/or smoking, a fee will be added to the invoice.

Plans can change. As a flexible mobility partner, we are happy to adapt to your plans. Thanks to our Flexi Return guarantee, you have the freedom to return the vehicle at any time to an authorised Sixt station, regardless of the rental agreement. If your plans change during your hire period, let us know by telephone on +371 67207121 or in person at any of our stations, and our employees will amend your rental contract. By doing this, we can adapt to your changed plans. This service is, of course, free of charge for you.

If you return your vehicle earlier than agreed in the rental contract, we will charge the rental price according to the rental contract. You will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.

When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.

If you return the vehicle later, without notifying us, we will bill you EUR 12.10 service fee for the Flexi Return Service. This fee applies in addition to any extra days which might incur due to the rental extension.

If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of EUR 20.33 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance. With our Flexi Return guarantee, you will always have maximum flexibility and cost-efficiency when driving.

All rates are inclusive of VAT (if VAT incurs). For corporate customers with individual agreements alternative prices and regulations can apply.
