Rental Information

The lessee and the driver must present a valid driver's license and an identity card or passport while receiving delivery of the vehicle.

To verify the validity of a driving licenses, the original driving license must be presented. No digital driving licence will be accepted.

Driver's license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an international driver's licence. For driver's licenses from countries not part of the international driver's license treaty an official translation is required.

Sixt supports Chinese customers with the necessary translations via Sixt WeChat Account or via following link: Link. This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.

If the renter or driver has been in Guatemala for longer than three (3) months, he needs to present a driving license issued in Guatemala.

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle. Basically, the minimum age for every driver in Guatemala is 21 years. A deviation from the minimum age is possible depending on the vehicle.

In Guatemala, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a driver's license:

A Young Driver Surcharge applies for drivers under 25 years.

The following credit cards are accepted: all credit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard, Credomatic, Discover, Japan Credit Bureau and Visa. We do not accept any prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron). The renter must be the owner of the indicated credit card.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.

Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card.

An advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security. The exact deposit is determined on collection since the amount is dependent on the vehicle.

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

Changing booking

Changing Booking A prepaid booking can be changed up to 48 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 20,00 USD. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, which will be withheld and shall be in the amount of the rental charge (including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.

No-show In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Rental rates do include Third Party Liability.

Protection coverage for the vehicle includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of 19,480.00 USD for personal injuries and material damages.

Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. Coverage does not apply if driving through rivers, on beach or in contact with salt water. All protection cover as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

If purchased Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) protects you against claims made by a third party for -bodily injury- and/or property damage sustained as a result of an accident while you are operating a -rental vehicle-.

This coverage supplies Renter with third-party liability protection up to a limit of 125,000.00 USD per accident.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) does not cover all situations that may arise while operating a -rental vehicle-. SLI does not cover all risks. There may be exclusions for unauthorized or intoxicated drivers, no first party uninsured motorist coverage, no coverage for certain passengers in the Vehicle, and other exclusions.

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 1.200,00 USD - CCMR, CCAR 1.500,00 USD - IDAR 1.700,00 USD - IFAR 2.200,00 USD - CDAR 2.300,00 USD - CFAR, SFAR 2.500,00 USD - SFAV 3.000,00 USD - RFAR 4.300,00 USD - FVAR 4.400,00 USD - PVMR, PVAR 4.800,00 USD - SPMR 5.600,00 USD - JFAR 7.000,00 USD - FFAR, FFDR, PFAR, GFAR 8.600,00 USD - SPAR

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.

If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with reduced excess to reduce/eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) with reduced excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 700,00 USD - CCMR, CCAR 1.100,00 USD - IFAR 1.400,00 USD - CFAR, SFAR 1.900,00 USD - RFAR 2.000,00 USD - CDAR 2.200,00 USD - SFAV 2.800,00 USD - FVAR 2.900,00 USD - PVMR, PVAR 3.700,00 USD - JFAR 3.800,00 USD - SPMR 4.700,00 USD - PFAR, FFAR, GFAR 6.800,00 USD - SPAR

If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess to reduce/eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.

If Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts: 0.00 USD

Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess is not offered on the SPMR and SPAR car groups.

By taking out personal accident protection can also be extended to cover the consequences of an accident.

The tire and glass coverage provides protection for damages on tires and windscreen with a deductible of USD 0.00.

If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damage.

For travels abroad, additional charges may apply and are governed by the respective country of entry and must be requested at the local rental station.

Cross Border Rentals are allowed to the following countries: Zone 1: El Salvador, Honduras Zone 2: Nicaragua, Costa Rica

In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity.

One-Way Rentals within Guatemala are not allowed.

International One-Way Rentals are not allowed.

In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.

Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability.

A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.

Child seats are available subject to a fee.

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise the current prices per litre of petrol or diesel will be charged in addition to a refuelling fee.

Alternatively, you may purchase a tankful of fuel (prepaid fuel) at the time of reservation or at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.

An out of opening hours charge for Delivery/Collection Service may apply.

By choosing the driver service a Sixt driver will be supplied for 8 consecutive hours per day in the business hours. Additional hours and services outside business hours are available at the local branch. The customer remains liable for the condition of the vehicle except when the vehicle is physically moved by the Sixt driver.

A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.

A Vehicle License Fee occurs.
