General Rental Information

Important documents

The lessee and the driver must be in possession of a full, valid driver's license for at least one year. Finnish citizens can prove their identity with a Finnish driver's license; otherwise, an identity card or passport must be presented when picking up the car.

Furthermore, the following conditions apply depending on the issuing country of the driving license. All European Union Driving Licenses are accepted.

Driving license printed with non-Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Japanese, Cyrillic etc.) must be complemented by an International driving license or accompanied by an official translation into Finnish, Swedish or English by a reliable source.

Sixt supports Chinese customers with the necessary translations via Sixt WeChat Account or via following link: Link . This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.

Photocopies, digital licenses, Learner's Permits, and driver's licenses with driving restrictions will not be accepted.

These conditions are specified for all Sixt-rentals. The General Rental Terms and Conditions of the Finnish Car Rental Association are applied on top of these conditions for all car rentals in Finland. Please see https://www.autovuokraamoliitto.fi/rental-terms/ for details.

Age Restrictions

Certain regulations apply related to minimum age and possession of driver's license which can be found during the booking process depending on the booked vehicle. Basically, the minimum age for every driver is 19 years (having held the driving license for at least 1 year). A deviation from the minimum age depends on the car group. In Finland, the following rules apply for the minimum age:

Tariff information

General

All credit cards from internationally recognized credit card companies - such as American Express, Eurocard/Mastercard, Diners Club and Visa are acceptable as payment methods whereas cash and all prepaid and electronic cards (eg. Visa Electron, Maestro card, Debit Online cards, V pay and Revolut) are not accepted. Sixt accepts Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit and AirPlus as payment. The renter must be the owner of the payment card used for the rental. The used payment card must be presented at the time of vehicle pick-up, and it must valid for at least two months from the rental period. All the incremental charges occurring from the rental are charged from this payment card.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid Credit Card.

Please note, that payment card online usage must be enabled, and the PIN of the payment card may be required for payments & deposits.

Upon pick-up of the rental vehicle, an advance charge approval is obtained for the chosen means of payment as a security. The advance charge approval sum is made up from the due amount including any extra charges and services + EUR 300.00 deposit.

All renters will be looked up through a credit check. Any registration of the renter or additional drivers may cause Sixt to decline the rental.

Sixt Finland reserves all rights for changes to deposit sums, requirement of second credit card, and denying of renting if required, without prior notice.

Special rental information when booking Prepaid rates

Prepaid tariff - Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalized at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

Changing booking

A prepaid booking can be changed up to 24 hours before the start of the rental (depending on availability) in return for a booking modification fee of 20,00 EUR. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this modification leads to a lesser rental cost. Any changes made to a prepaid reservation may impact the rental rate. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of cancellation, the payment already made towards the rental will be paid back subject to a cancellation charge. The cancellation charge shall be the amount of the rental charge (including any extras and charges) for a maximum of 3 rental days. Cancellations can be made online or in writing and must be addressed to: SIXT Finland / Transporent Oy, Äyritie 4, 01510 Vantaa, Finland, email: reservation@sixt.fi.

Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.

No-show

In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Protection conditions

If the rental car is driven elsewhere than on public roads, or if the rental car is driven on the flooded roads, the renter is held liable to a full extent for all costs, regardless of the chosen protection products. Following a damage or service case, the driver is always required to fill an accident report form to Sixt, if not exclusively instructed otherwise by Sixt. Any offences involving the car, traffic accidents and personal injury or animal damage shall always also be notified to the police (emergency phone number: 112). Sixt has the right to request from driver, and driver is entitled to provide Sixt with essential information and measurement results (for example alcohol or drug test) of an accident case, that are not provided to Sixt directly by the authorities. If the accident report form is not filled and delivered to Sixt, and Sixt has not been provided with requested essential information and measurement results of an accident case, the renter is held liable to a full extent for all costs related to the damage or service case, regardless of the chosen protection products.

Third Party Insurance (TI)

Protection coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with unlimited cover for personal injuries. Maximum cover for material damages is EUR 3,3 mil.

Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods and driving elsewhere than on public roads. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's license at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Loss Damage Waiver (incl. theft protection)

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) reduces the lessee's responsibility to a certain excess in the event of damage to or loss of the rental vehicle.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the lessee is entitled to a deductible of 1500.00 EUR per damage or theft. In addition, a reduction of the deductible to excess of 200.00 EUR is possible.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the vehicle up to its full value for damages and theft.

The renter will not be held liable for possible damages of the rental vehicle if SIXT receives full indemnification from the third party damage causer, or from the causer's insurance company.

In the event of willful or grossly negligent damage caused, a claim on the agreed fully comprehensive cover can be reduced or lapsed.

Excluded from the coverage are roadside assistance costs (for example car towing or lost key), interior damages and damages on tires, rims and windows.

Choosing Loss Damage Waiver with excess of 0.00 EUR also includes Tire and Windscreen coverage with 0.00 EUR excess.

Interior Protection

By taking out insurance protection for the interior, liability in the event of damage or soil to the vehicle interior can be eliminated.

If the protection is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damages and cleaning costs to the vehicle interior. Interior Protection is not valid in the event of wilful or grossly negligent damage or soil caused to the vehicle interior, by for example smoking, transporting animal without pet package, or by removing car parts like floor mats or luggage space cover. All vehicle equipment and parts (e.g. luggage space cover) must be kept in the vehicle throughout the rental period. It is forbidden to remove or turn the seats of the vehicle. Requests to turn or remove the seats must be made in advance to SIXT.

Tire and Windscreen Coverage

Tire and Windscreen coverage provides protection for damages on tires, rims and windows of the car with an excess of 0.00 EUR.

If Tire and Windscreen Coverage or Loss Damage Waiver with excess of 0.00 EUR is not accepted, the customer will be held liable for the full extent of the damages to tires, rims and windows.

Roadside Protection

Roadside Protection is an extended breakdown cover during the rental, and protects against high service fees and costs in the following accidental events within national territory and on authorized travel abroad: towing services due to broken tire or accident, key locked inside the vehicle, loss of keys before car return, getting stuck, jump start in the event of an empty battery and breakdown due to lack of fuel or electricity.

If Roadside Protection is not accepted, customer is held liable for the full value of all service costs. Roadside Protection does not cover any damages to the rental vehicle. If the car is returned to SIXT without car keys, the rental charge will continue to occur until the keys have been returned to the rental return branch by the customer. Roadside Protection does not cover any costs related to the key return.

All services must only be requested by using the Sixt 24-hour roadside assistance (tel. +358 20 11 22 535). This assistance also determines the type and extent of the cover with the objective of keeping the renter mobile, and for example jump starting a vehicle without presence of roadside assistance staff is prohibited.

Damage compensation and service cost charging

Should damages appear upon check-in of the rental car that have not been listed in the rental agreement as existing damages, a damage compensation will be charged from the renter. The damage compensation amount is determined by repair cost or repair cost estimate (including deprivation days resulting from non-usability of the vehicle), and the renter's liability for damages as in rental agreement. If service costs described in part Roadside Protection have occurred on the rental and Roadside Protection has not been chosen for the rental agreement, all service costs will be charged to a full value from the renter. In the event of non-payment, a second reminder will be sent, and a statutory reminder fee of 5.00 EUR will be charged. If the renter has failed to make the payment within 14 calendar days from the due date, Sixt has the right to hand over the renters personal data to third parties for debt recovery purposes. In each debt collection case where a third party is involved, the third party has the right to charge a 30% collection fee on the total amount.

Cross Border Rentals & Territorial Restrictions

Renter shall be entitled to use the rental vehicle exclusively in the territory of Mainland Finland unless a foreign use option is chosen: "Zone 1": Norway, Sweden and Åland - 60.00 EUR per rental "Zone 2": Zone 1 and Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - 200.00 EUR per rental "Zone 3": Zone 2 and Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and Vatican City - 500.00 EUR per rental The fee applies independent of the return location and, in the case of a one-way rental, in addition to the one-way fee. Border crossing to any other country and vehicle usage in the territories of any other country shall be strictly forbidden. In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all protections lose their validity and the customer is held liable for the full value of occurring costs and charges related to the rental. If the vehicle is used outside the rental agreement territory, Sixt shall be entitled to immediately terminate the rental agreement on behalf of the renter without any sanctions. Foreign use does not cover possible roadside usage fees abroad (e.g. road tolls, congestion fees, ferry charges etc.), which are on customer's responsibility. Unpaid roadside usage fees are charged from the customer afterwards with the administration fee. Please see "Administration Fee". All SIXT Finland vehicles are equipped with studded winter tires during the winter season. Please see "Winter package". Winter tires without studs for trips to foreign countries outside Scandinavia and the Baltics must be requested in advance, and the customer is held liable for all the costs related to such tire change. Cross border rentals are not possible for vehicles of Sixt Finland that are registered for licensed usage. Please see "Licensed Usage of Rental Cars".

Accessories are bookable without obligation and subject to availability.

One-Way Rentals

If the desired one-way rental is possible, respective charges may apply.

In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.

Navigation system guaranteed

If navigation system is booked, we guarantee that the renter receives either a car with integrated navigation system, or a standalone GPS navigator device.

Apple CarPlay / Android Auto:

If Apple CarPlay / Android Auto is booked, we guarantee that the renter receives a car with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatibility. Possibly required high grade data cable to connect the phone and the car is not provided by SIXT.

Additional Driver

A charge is levied for the additional driver, whose details are noted in the lease only if the additional driver presents a valid driver's license.

Baby and child seats

All children which are under 135 cm tall are obligated by Finnish Road Traffic Act to use a safety seat adapted for the child's height and weight. Baby seats (0-13kg), child seats (9-18kg) and booster seats (15-36kg) are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made.

Please note that the co-travelling parent or driver of the car is responsible that children under 15-year-old travel in the car with appropriate safety device mounted correctly.

Vehicle refueling and car fluids

All vehicles are supplied with filled up essential fluids and a full tank of fuel.

Essential fluids are included in the rental price, except windscreen washer fluid and AdBlue that possibly need to be filled up during the rental resulting from high volume usage or mileage.

If the car is returned without full fuel tank and you have not chosen optional prepaid fuel or fueling service, a charge of EUR 4.00 per refueled litre will apply (minimum charge of 3 litres = EUR 12.00).

Alternatively, you may purchase a tankful of fuel (prepaid fuel) at the time of reservation or at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

Alternatively, you may book a fueling service for a fee and return the tank empty. The refueled liters will be charged at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations, in addition to the prior noted tanking service fee.

Fully electric vehicle charging

We record the charge level of electric vehicles both at handover and return. If the charge level of the electric vehicle at handover was above 70%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a charge level of at least 70%. If the charge level of the vehicle at handover was below 70%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a corresponding charge level.

If the electric vehicle is returned with a lower charge level and you have not chosen prepaid electricity upon vehicle pick-up, a charge of EUR 1.20 per kWh of missing battery capacity will apply.

Prepaid electricity: When picking up the fully electric vehicle, you can purchase optional prepaid electricity at a price comparable to charging the vehicle at a charging station, and return the vehicle at any charge level. In this case, you will not be charged for the additional charging costs stated above. Please note that unused capacity will not be refunded.

Relocation accessories

Sack barrows are subject to a fee. Available only for selected branches.

Delivery & Collection

Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.

The renter is obliged to report the vehicle back to SIXT at the end of the rental period.

Pet Package

Transporting animals in SIXT rental vehicles is strictly forbidden without Pet Package due to allergens. Please see "Special cleaning and non-usability of the vehicle" for details. SIXT Finland offers optional Pet Package for those who wish to transport a pet in the rental vehicle. Pet Package includes rental of space cover and dog safety-harness, as well as moderate interior cleaning and ionization of allergens in rental vehicle after rental. When pets are inside the car, they must be attached to the safety-harnesses and kept on top of the space cover in the passenger cabin, or alternatively in renter's own transport cage (SIXT Finland does not rent transport cages). Pet package does not include possible cleaning of the car upholstery after pet transfer. For pet package requests less than 48 hours in advance, please contact the pick-up branch for availability.

SIXT Finland offers pet package free-of-charge for rentals in which a visually impaired or physically disabled person and the guide or service dog travels in the rental car. An official ID card stating the disability must be presented to SIXT.

Winter package

A fee occurs for winter season rentals between November 1 and March 31. Winter package can be chosen as an optional extra for rentals in April and October. Winter package includes studded winter tires and a snow brush with ice scraper.

Trailer Coupling

We guarantee a vehicle with trailer hitch for a fee. Available only for selected vehicle groups. For trailer coupling requests less than 24 hours in advance, please contact the pick-up branch for availability.

Licensed Usage of Rental Cars

The usage of vehicle for continuous licensed transportation (i.e. invoiced passenger transportation) is prohibited by Finnish Road Traffic Act if the car is registered for rental usage, and the rental is not a short-term (less than 30 days) replacement rental. Sixt Finland offers optional licensed usage registration service for those customers who wish to use the rental car for licensed transportation during the rental period. The price of registration service is 50,20 EUR per vehicle, and it includes registration of vehicle usage information to licensed usage and registration of customer company as secondary holder for the rental period, as well as reverting of the vehicle registration changes after the rental. Please note that when the vehicle of Sixt Finland is registered for licensed usage, cross border rentals are not possible.

Other Fees and Taxes

Premium Location Fee

A premium location fee occurs for rentals at airport, port, delivery, hotel & railway station branches.

Out Of Hours

Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.

Vehicle License Fee

A Vehicle License Fee occurs.

Offline Reservation Fee

Offline Reservation Fee occurs when a reservation is created or changed for the customer by SIXT-personnel. Offline Reservation Fee is not charged on changes or additions to reservation that cannot be done as a self-service by the customer.

Special cleaning and non-usability of the vehicle

All Finnish Sixt cars are non-smoking (including electronic cigarettes), and transporting animals in Sixt rental vehicles is strictly forbidden without Pet Package due to allergens.

In case the car requires a special cleaning procedure after return and cannot be rented before special cleaning (i.e. ozonization due to bad smell from smoking or vomit, or ionization of allergens after pet transportation in rental vehicle without Pet Package), a minimum charge of 250.00 EUR will apply.

Larger scale special cleanings are charged based on the expense-invoices from special cleaning services.

Lost & Found Service

Items forgotten in the rental vehicle are stored for 30 days and can be returned to the customer upon request and in exchange to detailed item description. The renter is responsible for organizing and paying for the transportation and is charged for the administration fee by SIXT for packing and handling over the return.

Flexi Return Guarantee

Plans can change. As a flexible mobility partner, we are happy to adapt to your plans. Thanks to our Flexi Return guarantee, you have the freedom to return the vehicle at any time to an authorised Sixt station, regardless of the rental agreement. If your plans change during your hire period, let us know by telephone on +358 200 111 222 or in person at any of our numerous stations, and our employees will amend your rental contract. By doing this, we can adapt to your changed plans. This service is, of course, free of charge for you.

Flexi Early Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay later

If you return your vehicle earlier than agreed in the rental contract, we will charge the rental price according to the rental contract. You will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.

Flexi Early Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.

Flexi Late Return in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)

If you return the vehicle later, without notifying us, we will bill you EUR 12,55 service fee for the Flexi Return Service. This fee applies in addition to any extra days which might incur due to the rental extension.

Flexi Return Location in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)

If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of EUR 20,08 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance. This fee applies in addition to a One-Way Fee that occurs for rentals from one city to another. With our Flexi Return guarantee, you will always have maximum flexibility and cost-efficiency when driving.

Administration Fee

Administration Fee of 40,00 EUR is charged together with settlement of every additional charge occurring during or after the rental, in case of following incidents for example: road toll charges, delivery costs for returning items forgotten in rental car, repair costs and deprivation days for new damages emerging during the rental (up to damage excess), usage originating roadside assistance costs, vehicle exchange costs, parking- and traffic violation fines occurred during the rental not paid by the renter, special interior cleaning charge due to unauthorized animal transport or violation of smoking prohibition.

In the event of non-payment, a second reminder will be sent, and a statutory reminder fee of 5.00 EUR will be charged. If the renter has failed to make the payment within 14 calendar days from the due date, Sixt has the right to hand over the renters personal data to third parties for debt recovery purposes.
