One-Way Road Trip Suggestions

Getting from Spain to another country is easy with a one-way rental from Sixt. For those in need of inspiration, here are some road trip suggestions to make the most of your one-way rental:

  • Coast to Coast: Valencia to Porto – Driving from east to west across Spain and then Portugal will give you a full range of landscapes and cities to see. Starting in Valencia, you can hit the beach or view the mix of futuristic and historic buildings. Then, drive west through Madrid and into Portugal where you will travel through small cities like Guarda and Viseu before ending up in Porto. The historic waterside city offers a medieval district and is known for port wine. After an 8.5-hour drive, you can relax by the water with a drink.
  • Architecture Tour: Madrid to Lyon – Enjoy the boulevards and many parks, as well as art and architecture in Madrid before driving to Lyon to see medieval and renaissance architecture. The journey will take you east through Zaragoza and Barcelona before hitting the French border and the Pyrenees mountain region. Drive along the coast and then north through Montpellier before ending up in Lyon. The scenery along the way will make the 11-hour drive worth it.
  • Beach to Bustle: Barcelona to London – Are you ready for the ultimate road trip through France? The drive from Barcelona along the east coast of Spain to London will take more than 14 hours but will take you through major cities and the French countryside. Depending on the chosen route, you can go through Paris, or drive a bit further east and go through Montpellier and Lyon. Then you will travel to the UK at Calais on an auto transport. It is best to book your spot on the transport beforehand to save time and money.
One-Way Rental Rules and Restrictions

Due to insurance regulations and costs for returning vehicles, sometimes there are fees or restrictions with one-way car rental. However, at Sixt we are always upfront with any charges or fees. The one-way fee within the same country or cross borders always depends on the pickup and drop-off locations. When you enter your desired pick-up and drop-off locations in the booking engine, you will be notified if a one-way rental is possible. The one-way rental fee (if any) will be added to the total amount payable at the end of the process. We reserve the right to charge an additional fee for unannounced one-way rentals.

For more information about one-way restrictions, please see the rental information for your desired pick-up country or simply get in touch.

In general the rental vehicle may only be used in the state of pick-up and the surrounding geographical area (Region) as specified in the table below.
