Am I required to take the insurance?
When you rent a car with Sixt you have a range of coverage plans for a rental car that will allow you to breathe easy during your travels.
All Sixt rental cars offer Third Party Liability, which covers bodily injury and property damage, in accordance with the legal requirements of the country of rental.
However, Sixt highly recommends that you put additional coverage on your rental car to save you the worry. You have some options to choose from including the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) and the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW).
- The LDW will give you coverage in case of damage or theft of the rental car. If you are able to provide Sixt with the keys and the situation was not the fault of recklessness on behalf of the driver, Sixt will waive your responsibility. In some cases, the LDW is included automatically.
- The CDW further reduces the driver’s liability should any damages be incurred on the vehicle. Other protection options include the Tire and Glass Waiver, which is not included in other protection plans and covers any damages to the tires or glass on the vehicle.
Another highly recommended coverage plan is Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) which covers you in case of any injury you sustain in an accident, even if it was caused by you.
In some cases you can also choose to use your own personal auto coverage, although Sixt does recommend that you include a Sixt protection option as well, just to make sure you are covered in any eventuality.
Remember that each country may have different policies or included plans so it’s a good idea to contact a branch directly. In addition, when you book online all the country or area specific information will be made clear to you, so you don’t have to worry about being uninformed when actually renting a car. You can find more information online here.
We hope that you enjoy your Sixt car rental and we wish you a safe, comfortable drive!
