What should I do in case of a breakdown or technical issue with my SIXT rental car?

Breakdowns and roadside assistance

If your rental car breaks down or develops a technical fault, move it to a safe location, switch on your hazard lights and contact SIXT Roadside Assistance. Do not continue driving if a warning light is on or the vehicle will not start — this could cause further damage.

First steps

  • Pull over somewhere safe and switch on your hazard lights — on motorways, exit the vehicle on the safe side away from traffic

  • If provided with your rental, put on your high-visibility vest and place a warning triangle where it is safe to do so

  • Do not attempt any repairs yourself

When you call

  • Give your exact location, licence plate and rental agreement number

  • Describe any warning lights and the nature of the fault

  • Follow our team's instructions regarding recovery, repair or a replacement vehicle
