Can someone else pick up my SIXT rental car on my behalf?

Whether you can change your payment card depends on the rate you have chosen. With Flexi, you only pay at pick-up — simply bring a different card to the branch. With Prepaid, payment details cannot be changed as payment was taken at the time of booking.

Flexi rate — use a different card at pick-up

• Bring the desired credit or debit card in the main driver's name to the branch

• The branch will place the authorization on this card and charge it for the rental payment

• The card must have sufficient available balance or credit limit for both the rental and the authorization

Prepaid rate — payment method is locked

• At the time of booking, your payment method is charged immediately with the expected rental price (including extras and fees)

• Driver and payment details can no longer be changed

Why the card and driver must match

SIXT verifies the card against the main driver's driver's license and ID to prevent fraud.

Only the main driver named on the SIXT booking can pick up the vehicle. Changing the main driver online is not possible. If someone else needs to pick up the vehicle, message us on WhatsApp or Live Chat, or make a new booking under the correct name.

Note: With Prepaid rates, driver and payment details are locked once the booking is made and can no longer be changed. In this case, you will need to cancel and re-book in line with the cancellation terms.

Re-book yourself

For Prepaid rates or short-notice changes, cancel your existing booking and create a new one under the correct name — on the SIXT website or in the SIXT app.

Add an additional driver

If someone else would like to drive alongside the main driver, add them as an additional driver — online before pick-up or at the branch with their own driver's license.

In some locations, additional drivers may be added at no extra charge where required by applicable law. In all other cases, an additional driver fee applies.

Fee waivers required by law

Where local law requires it, SIXT waives the additional driver fee. Please check at the time of booking whether this applies to your pick-up location.

Adding an additional driver

Additional drivers can be added during booking or at the SIXT counter at pick-up.

The additional driver must be present at pick-up and provide:

• A valid driver’s license (or International Driving Permit, if required) for verification

• Compliance with the minimum age and driving experience requirements for the selected vehicle category

SIXT loyalty program

For USA residents, one additional driver fee is waived for Gold, Platinum, or Diamond loyalty program members.
