The airport is 8.3 miles from the center or Rhodes Town and it is a 23 minute drive via the Epar.Od. Ialisou-Katavias route. Roads are well signposted, so you will easily find the right route. However, it's well worth adding a GPS when you rent a car in Rhodes, particularly if you have not visited before.

Our Rhodes Port and Rhodes Ixia branches are well served by local roads and conveniently located for the city's major hotels. Most hotels in Rhodes Town and in popular resorts like Lindos and Faliraki have guest parking spaces. There are paid parking spaces close to the Old Town in Rhodes. Parking meters only take coins so be sure to take change. There is also free parking at Mandraki close to the windmills but these spaces go quickly, especially at the weekend.

Sixt Tips

Car rental in Rhodes allows you to plan your own itinerary whether you are on vacation or fitting in a spot of sightseeing between business meetings. Rhodes is famous for historic attractions and its numerous other Roman and Greek sites. It is also a popular beach vacation destination. However, the island's main beaches can be crowded during the summer months. Take a tip from the locals and drive along the shore between Prasonisi and Gennadi where you will find a quiet, sandy beach that is ideal for swimming and surfing.

If you are an experienced climber, plan an outing to Mount Attavyros. At 3,968 feet above sea level, it is the highest point on the island. Take the road towards Siana and park on one of the farm roads close to the mountain. The climb is quite difficult and takes around 2 or 3 hours, but you will be rewarded with magnificent views. A hard climb isn't for you? Drive up the mountain instead using the approach road to the south.

Car rental means plenty of space for shopping. Local arts and crafts include jewelry and ceramics, and sponges are a must buy item. The island has over 300 days of sun per year so it may come as a surprise to discover that umbrellas are a major industry. Lots of people buy a made in Rhodes umbrella as a joke souvenir but they are an excellent choice if you come from a wetter land.

Rhodes Town is the island's biggest city and it is famous for its magnificent Port, the Palace of the Grand Masters, the site of the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Acropolis of Rhodes. The city boasts one of the best preserved medieval Old Towns in the world and the entire island is a history fans dream. It is also a beach lovers paradise. Rent a car in Rhodes and you will be able to plan exciting trips to a diverse range of popular places like Lindos and Faliraki or enjoy a round of golf near Afandou. Car rental makes anywhere accessible and some of the best places for weekend getaways or day trips from Rhodes Town.
