Its population about 2 000 000. Agglomeration is a part of the Silesian Voivodeship.

    The Silesian region has a range of Polands mostdiverse tourist attractions, including the beautiful limestone rocks of the Krakow-Czestochowa Jurassic Highland Chain, with perfect conditions for rock climbing, the mountain ranges of the Silesian Beskids and Zywiec Beskids with the well-known in Europe ski resorts of Szczyrk, Ustron, Wisla or Korbielowo, the Pauline Monastery of Jasna Gora in Czestochowa and the Silesian Industrial Monuments Route - the only industrial tourism route in Poland.

    The European Economic Congress has started in Katowice. The guest of honor is the President of Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronislaw Komorowski.
    This is the largest event in this type in Central Europe with participation of Prime Ministers and EU commisioners. The congress will last until May, the 16th.

    Between 9 and 13 of May will take place 4th Days of Silesian Voivodeship.
    A few days of great artistic events in six cities. There will artists such as Emil Kusturica, Jane Birkin, Lamb, Ky Mani Marley - son of Bob Marley, Julia Marcell, Manu Chao, Carrantouhill and many, many others. There will also be performances, exhibitions and film screenings.
    Events are divided thematically and matched to each of the cities. Katowice and Chorzow will be the largest outdoor events, Bielsko - Biala - theater, Czestochowa - reggae, folk in Rybnik, and in Sosnowiec - hip - hop and alternative.

    Copenhagen, Oslo, Malmo, Stockholm and now... Stavanger in Norway by Wizz Air!

    From the 1st of April, Katowice Airport will service flights between Katowice and Stavanger. Flight will be operated by Wizz-Air, a low-budget air carrier two times a week on Wednesday and Sunday. It will be the fifth connection with Scandinavia.

    Since the 26th of March there is a new connection between Copenhagen Airport and Katowice Airport. The flight is realized by Scandinavian airline SAS four times per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

    There is a renovation and expansion of the Terminal A in Katowice - Pyrzowice Airport!

    The works will last untill May 2012. Terminal will gain a new elevation and will gain 1000m2 in surface area. Entry to terminal A is currently through terminal B.
