How and when to use the Turner Turnpike

The legal speed limit on the Turnpike is 75mph making it possible to drive from Tulsa to downtown Oklahoma City in less than 90 minutes. It has also has interchanges near the following Oklahoma cities: Welston, Chandler, Stroud, Bristow; and near Kellyville and Sapulpa.

K-Tag holders and NTTA users can use the Turnpike at a discounted rate. E-ZPass is not accepted.

History

The Turner Turnpike opened in 1953 and is the oldest of the state’s 10 turnpikes. It is named after Governor Roy J. Turner who spurred the construction of the toll road in order to connect Oklahoma’s two largest cities.

How and when to use the Will Rogers Turnpike

Stop at the Turnpike’s famous Will Rogers Archway, a service plaza located between the toll plaza and the Vinita exit featuring a 29,135-square-foot (2,706.7 m2) McDonald's spanning the turnpike. Through windows that overlook the highway one can see the traffic passing beneath the restaurant.  There is also a statue of the road’s namesake Will Rogers at the At the front of the west anchor.

History

The Will Rogers Turnpike opened  in 1957 and is named after Will Rogers, an American cowboy and vaudeville performer, who is said to be Oklahoma’s “favorite son”.

How and when to use the H. E. Bailey Turnpike

The Turnpike also has a 8.2 mile (13.2km) spur that provides a shorter route when traveling from Lawton to Norman, Oklahoma. When to Use:  The Turnpike will get drivers from Oklahoma City to Chickasha and from Chickasha to Lawton. It provides access to Cameron University in Lawton.
