Rental Information

The lessee and the driver must present a valid driver's license and an identity card or passport while receiving delivery of the vehicle.

To verify the validity of a driving licenses, the original driving license must be presented. No digital driving licence will be accepted.

Driver's licences from non-EU countries (except Switzerland) are accepted if: a) no visa has been entered in the passport. b) the customer has a visa in his passport and at the time of hire has not been in Europe for longer than 6 months. If he has been in Europe for longer than 6 months, he must present a driver's licence from an EU country.

Driver's license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an international driver's licence or an official translation. For driver's licenses from countries not part of the international driver's license treaty an official translation is required.

Sixt supports Chinese customers with the necessary translations via Sixt WeChat Account or via following link: Link. This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.

Minimum age in Monaco is 18 and the driver has to be in possession of a valid driving license for at least 1 year.

Apart from this, the following restrictions for the possession of a valid driving licence are valid:

All credit and debit cards as well as digital wallets from internationally recognized credit card companies (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB), credit cards by China Union Pay and Airplus are acceptable as payment methods, whereas all prepaid cards as well as Visa Electron, Nickel, Maestro- and VPAY-Cards are not accepted. PayPal is accepted for prepaid bookings at selected locations. The use of PayPal and the PayPal website is subject to the applicable PayPal terms and conditions. A credit or debit card must be presented on pick-up of the vehicle to make a security deposit. The renter must be the PayPal account holder. Apple Digital wallet is accepted for Prepaid bookings, and Digital checkout at selected locations. Debit cards or prepaid cards cannot be used for payments via Apple Pay. The use of Apple Pay is subject to the applicable Apple terms and conditions. At pick up of the vehicle customers must either present a credit or debit card or use Apple Pay (if available) at the counter to make a security deposit. The payment method must have been issued in the name of the driver. This must be presented at the time of vehicle pick-up and be valid at this time. The amount that will be debited includes the rental price as well as all additional extras and charges. Cash Payment is not accepted.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid means of payment.

As security, the means of payment is debited with a deposit amount. The amount of the deposit depends on the vehicle group of the rented vehicle and according to the following table:

Please note, that payments with credit card may require the PIN of the credit card. The credit card must be valid at least 30 days after the end of the rental agreement

Cancellation or modification of the booking is possible free of charge up to the pick-up time shown in the current reservation. In the event of non-collection of the booked vehicle within one hour of the agreed time without prior cancellation (no-show), a fee of EUR 69 will be charged. However, the no-show fee is never higher than the current reservation amount.

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

The booking may be changed up to one hour before the scheduled beginning of the rental period. There will be a booking change fee of EUR 29.99 plus any difference between the original rate and the rate applicable to the adjusted rental period. A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the case of cancellation, the already paid pre-payment will be charged, along with a cancellation fee. For reservations with a rental period of up to 2 days, the cancellation fee is 100% of the rental price (including booked extras and charges). For reservations with a rental period of more than 2 days, the size of the cancellation fee depends on the rental price booked (including booked extras and fees), and will be the proportion of this that corresponds to the rate for 2 rental days.

Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.

If the Client does not cancel and does not arrive to take delivery of the vehicle rented at the prepaid rate on the agreed date and no later than sixty (60) minutes after the time stated at the time of reservation, the rental price already paid will accrue to the Rental Company in full, subject to a limit of seven (7) days rental.

Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with unlimited cover for personal injuries, a maximum cover of EUR 100 Mill for material damages and a maximum cover of EUR 1.6 Mill for damages of the environment.

Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is entitled, depending on the vehicle, to a deductible of EUR 1,800.00 excl. TAX/VAT to EUR 10,000.00 excl. TAX/VAT. In addition, a reduction of the deductible is possible.

In the event of willful or grossly negligent damage caused, a claim on the agreed fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) can be reduced or lapsed.

If no fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) has been arranged, the leaser is responsible for all damage to the car not proven to be caused by a third party, and shall be liable for up to the full value of the vehicle.

The Tyre- and Windscreen Protection gives protection for damages on tyres, windscreen, side windows, backwindow and mirror glass with a deductible of EUR 0.00.

If no glass and tyre cover has been arranged, the leaser shall be liable for up to the full amount of the damage.

The roadside protection is an extended breakdown protection during the rental and protects you at home and abroad against high service and repair costs for the following incidents caused by you: Key locked inside the vehicle, loss of keys, getting stuck, jump start in the event of an empty battery and breakdown due to lack of fuel or electricity.

All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. They shall also determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the renter stays mobile. If any damage to the rental vehicle occurs which is not covered by Sixt within the scope of the Roadside Protection, the renter is liable for such damage.

Thanks to the interior protection, liability can be reduced to a predetermined deductible or eliminated if the vehicle interior is soiled or damaged.

Upon conclusion of the Complementary Protection Plus, SIXT waives its right to claim damages to the rental vehicle against the renter up to an amount of EUR 500 for each individual event of damage and to claim damages to the rental vehicle exceeding an amount of EUR 30,000 for each individual event of damage. The provisions of the General Terms and Conditions regarding contractual liability exemption in Section 10.2 apply accordingly to the waiver. Among other conditions, the waiver does not apply if the damage was caused intentionally by the renter or any authorized driver. The provisions of the Complementary Protection Plus are independent and separate from any insurance policies or protection packages that the renter may have taken out through third parties (e.g., travel portals or credit card companies).

The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into four zones.

Zone I: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican

Zone II: Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia

Zone III: Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania

Zone IV: All countries that are not in zone I, II or III.

Car groups in the Luxury Elite (W***) and Extraordinary (X***) categories, Fullsize Elite Vans (GVAR), Premium Elite Vans (UVAR) and all Sports & Luxury Cars may only enter zone I countries.

Car groups in the Premium (P***), Premium Elite (U***) and Luxury (L***) categories, Special Cars up to and including Premium Elite (**S*) as well as all vans and trucks may only enter countries in zones I and II.

Vehicles of all other groups may enter in zones I, II and III.

Entry into any country in zone IV is not permitted with any Sixt vehicle.

Leaving the European continent is not permitted. This includes the Spanish exclaves of Ceuta & Melilla. The renter undertakes to comply with all official entry, exit and access authorisations.

The local transport of the vehicle by ferry and by motorail is permitted in compliance with the above-mentioned entry restrictions. Damage to the vehicle during the crossing will be covered according to the protection booked in the rental contract.

In case of offence against cross border and territorial restrictions all protections lose their validity. Only the protection from the liability insurance in accordance with the conditions of the international insurance card remains valid.

A fee is charged for permission to travel abroad in accordance with the above-mentioned territorial restrictions. This fee is in addition to the one-way fee in case of a one-way rental.

No One-Way Rentals from/to Corsica and Oversea Departments (DOM TOM) allowed.

In the case of unannounced and unauthorised one-way rentals, we reserve the right to charge an additional fee.

International one-way-rentals are only allowed within Sixt locations in selected countries, depending on the current tarif. Please note that these prices are subject to adjustment depending on the fleet situation and the demand.

A surcharge of EUR 13.50 per day, max. EUR 119.70 per month applies for each additional driver.

Navigation systems and Android Auto / Apple Car Play are guaranteed to be available when booking.

Baby seats, child seats (not available in Corsica) and booster seats for children are guaranteed to be available if a booking is made.

Winter tires are available at a suitable fee. In addition, snow chains and ski racks are optionally available.

All vehilces are supplied with a full tank of fuel and should be refilled prior to return to Sixt, otherwise our current refuelling charges will apply.

Alternatively, you may purchase a tankful of fuel at the time of rental at a price that is competitive with local fuel stations and return the tank empty. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.

We record the charge level of electric vehicles both at handover and return. If the charge level of the electric vehicle at handover was above 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a charge level of at least 80%. If the charge level of the vehicle at handover was below 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a corresponding charge level. If the electric vehicle is returned with a lower charge level, a fee per kWh of missing battery capacity shall apply. The applicable rates are available at the Sixt stations.

In the event of loss or damage of the charging cable for e-vehicles and hybrid vehicles, a fee in the amount of EUR 420,00 will be charged for the replacement procurement of the cable, unless the lessee proves that Sixt incurred no or significantly lower expense and/or damage.

Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.

For all rentals at airports or train stations, as well as, where applicable, at certain agencies located in city centers where operating costs are particularly high, a location surcharge will be applied for each month commenced.

Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.

As a flexible mobility partner, we adapt to your plans subject to availability. Please inform us of any changes to your plans during the rental period by calling +33 (0)1 70 97 61 11 or directly at one of our numerous branches. As far as possible for us, we will adjust the rental agreement with the help of our staff. In addition to fees arising from the modification (e.g. extra days / different return location), we charge a handling fee of EUR 5.00 per modification process for changes made to the return date, return time or return location. Alternatively, you have the option to waive the handling fee for rental changes at your SIXT station when picking up the rental car for a service fee of EUR 3.00. If you do not inform us of your intended rental changes, the following service fees will be charged:

If you return your vehicle before the end of the agreed rental period, we will charge the rental price in accordance with the rental agreement. If the vehicle is returned more than two days before the end of the agreed rental period, you will receive a partial discount for the unused rental days.

When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.

If you return your vehicle later than agreed in the rental agreement, we will charge a usage fee for the additional time equal to the agreed price per rental day, provided the vehicle provided and the booked rate remain available and applicable for the relevant period. For minor return delays, we will charge a pro-rata amount of the daily rate. If your booking was part of a special rate (e.g. weekend or hourly rate) and its conditions are no longer met due to the late return, we will apply a usage fee for the additional time equal to our then-current standard rate. This may be higher than the special rate originally booked. If, through your own fault, you fail to inform us of the late return, we will charge, in addition to the usage fee, a service flat fee of EUR 28.80 for the Flexi Return Service. This does not apply if you prove that we incurred no expense and/or damage, or only a substantially lower expense and/or damage.

If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of EUR 19,99 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance.

There will be an Environmental Fee, which is included in the rent.

Administrative handling costs for breaches of the Highway Code will be applied: EUR 39.00 per breach.

Administrative handling costs for damages will be applied: EUR 75.00 per damage.

If the customer brings back the vehicle in bad condition in terms of cleanliness (including evidence of smoking) and the branch has to involve a specialized cleaning company, cleaning fees between 50 euros and 500 euros depending on the price charged to SIXT by the cleaning company provider can be charged to the customer. In the case of smoking, this fee applies regardless of any Interior Protection (BQ) booked by the customer.

All rates are inclusive of VAT (if VAT incurs). For corporate customers with individual agreements alternative prices and regulations can apply. Likewise, different prices and terms and conditions may apply to partners with individual agreements when rebooking or cancelling prepaid tariffs.
