A valid, unexpired, and original driver’s license that is legible, in good condition, and valid for the rental period is required. We do not accept extremely damaged or illegible licenses. Temporary licenses are accepted only if accompanied by the original expired license. Digital licenses, photocopies, Learner’s Permits, and licenses with breathalyzer restrictions are not accepted.
\nThe minimum age is 21, except in New York where it is 18. For government rentals, the minimum is 18. Renters under 25 will incur an Age Excess Waiver fee and can only rent certain vehicle categories (Economy through Full-size Sedans, Midsize SUVs, and Minivans).
\nYes, you can. If your driver’s license is in a non-Roman alphabet (such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, or Cyrillic), you must provide an international driver’s license or an official translation. If your country is not part of the international driver’s license treaty, an official translation is required along with the original license. SIXT offers assistance to Chinese customers with necessary translations via the SIXT WeChat Account. This or any other valid translation must be presented along with the original driver’s license.

To ensure that your selected protection option also applies to additional drivers, we charge an additional driver fee per driver. If the additional driver is not present at the branch with the main driver, we cannot proceed with adding them to the contract. Of course, the primary driver and additional driver can register an additional driver at any SIXT station in the US at a later stage. No, SIXT maintains a 100% smoke-free fleet in the US and any type of smoking (pipe, cigarette, cigar) is prohibited in all SIXT vehicles. Just as renters are assessed a fee for cleaning the car's interior for excessive stains, dirt or soiling attributable to the renter’s use, customers will be assessed an additional charge if the car smells of smoke when it is returned.
\nPets are allowed in rental vehicles. Customers must return their rental car in a clean condition and free of pet hair to avoid cleaning and detailing fees.

The deposit for high-value vehicles may be higher. These funds will not be available to you during the rental.

Note: Depending on the banking institution the amount is not immediately debited but held on the cardholder’s bank account until the final rental charge amount has been debited. When the vehicle is returned, the invoiced amount will be charged to the credit card provided, unless you (the renter) present another form of payment.

\nAn approval is an amount held on your credit card and may be used for the deposit. An authorization or deposit shows as a pending amount on your card until the rental is completed. Once the rental is completed, the authorization or deposit will be released to your card and the final amount of the rental charged.
