While its size seems overwhelming, the aquarium is partitioned into various themes to make it more focused and educational. If history is your thing, the&nbsp;<b>Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park<\/b>&nbsp;features his birthplace home alongside the grave of this famous civil rights leader. It\u2019s a combination of a museum about the area\u2019s history of the Civil War, and home to memorabilia from the classic film \u201cGone with the Wind\u201d. If you are a fan of either, this is an easy place to stop on your way to Savannah, as it\u2019s just off interstates 75 and 675.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to see:<\/strong> Check out movie props, wardrobe items and costume reproductions from &#8220;Gone with the Wind&#8221;, along with a photo gallery from the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"arabia\">Stop 3: Arabia Mountain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Just southeast of Atlanta is <strong>Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area<\/strong>. This is a popular place for city dwellers to explore nature, rare plants and the park\u2019s geology. Hike up to the peak of <strong>Arabia Mountain <\/strong>for a great view of Atlanta, just don\u2019t step in the solution pits (puddles, pools and sandy patches on the rocks) that contain rare plant species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to see:<\/strong> The Arabia Mountain PATH is a paved trail covering more than 33 miles that goes through the national heritage area. Visit the<strong> Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House<\/strong>, take tours of historic homes and try out some of the restaurants serving Southern food. If you are your kids are into planes and aviation, it\u2019s worth a stop to see the more than 85 historic aircraft on display. There are also regular events, so be sure to check the schedule before visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to see:<\/strong> Check out the virtual reality simulator and choose from nine different adventures. Keep in mind that while the museum is free to visit, you need to buy a ticket to enjoy a VR Transporter ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"jarrell\">Stop 7: Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Located outside of <strong>Juliette<\/strong>, this is a former cotton plantation turned state park. It was owned by the Jarrell family for more than 140 years and survived many historic events. This historic city is full of beautiful buildings and other attractions to take in. Drive or walk through the <strong>Savannah Historic District<\/strong> to see&nbsp;all&nbsp;the charming houses and moss-draped trees the city is known for. After, park near <strong>Bull Street <\/strong>for some boutique shopping. The barrier island has wide sandy beaches, with South Beach attracting sunbathers and North Beach having a historic fort and lighthouse.
