What inspires you to get out of the house, experience the great outdoors, and seek those off-the-beaten-path adventures? Is it to experience something different? Create shareable moments? Or is it something deeper? For Kane Andrade, these adventures are driven by her passion for outdoor photography and constantly being inspired to capture something new. This was obvious in the photography she captured exclusively for Sixt during a road trip from San Francisco to Oregon<\/strong>. We’ve previously discussed popular road trips along the Pacific Coast Highway<\/a> or to iconic sites like the Grand Canyon<\/a>. While popular destinations are always enjoyable, Kane\u2019s journey proves that taking the path less traveled can be just as rewarding.<\/p>\n

\n

\"Kane<\/p>\n

Kane C. Andrade<\/strong> is a 3D animator and visual effects artist from San Francisco, California. After her time in the US Military, she went through a difficult transition period from military to civilian life. During this time, she became inspired by the wonders of travel and photography. Today, while her photography has earned her a massive following, it has also become a form of self-expression and given her a sense of community. They say that all artists have a different eye when it comes to their creations. But the fact that she\u2019s colorblind makes her colorful images and unique perspective all the more impressive.<\/p>\n

\n

Capturing the Magic of Oregon<\/h2>\n

Not familiar with U.S. geography? Oregon is in the Pacific Northwest region on the West Coast, right between California and Washington. There are coastlines in the west, deserts in the east, and volcanic mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and forests in between. Kane\u2019s journey in a Volvo XC60<\/strong><\/a> took her on a 1,441-mile road trip off the grid. Since the Beaver State has more scenic byways than any other state, there is more to enjoy when you get behind the wheel of a car. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy these highlights of Kane\u2019s scenic drive through Oregon.<\/p>\n

\"Scenic<\/p>\n

Portland: The City of Roses<\/h3>\n

Due to its quirky atmosphere and delicious eateries, Portland is the type of city that after a two-day visit, you want to move there. Although the City of Roses is infamous for its consistently rainy weather, it has a mild climate year-round so there\u2019s no real bad time to visit. As Oregon\u2019s largest city, there is no shortage of things to do in the city. You can sample the vast and funky brews from one of the 70 breweries throughout the city or visit the Portland Art Museum<\/strong> to enjoy the contemporary and classic art exhibits.<\/p>\n

Of course, for those looking for outdoor activities and adventure, you don\u2019t have to venture far from town. Forest Park<\/strong> is a giant forest of evergreens right in the middle of the city with many hiking trails. You can try popular trails like the Wildwood Trail<\/strong>, Ridge Trail<\/strong>, Waterline Trail<\/strong>, etc. Or you can do as Kane did and stay in a cottage in the forest to make the most of your experience and observe native wildlife.<\/p>\n

We arrived to our awesome home deep in the forest of Portland. It was so calm and peaceful to be here after being on the road all day. Would you prefer a cottage in a forest or a penthouse in the city?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A Scenic Drive to Mount Hood<\/h3>\n

Mount Hood is Oregon\u2019s highest peak and a dominant point on the Portland skyline. Considered one of Oregon\u2019s 7 Wonders, it\u2019s the second most climbed mountain in the world. Due to the glaciers that coat the mountain\u2019s peak, it has an alpine beauty that can be admired from miles and miles away. It\u2019s home to six ski areas, one of which is the only year-round ski resort in North America, making it a great base camp for skiers. The Timberline Lodge<\/strong> is a National Historic Landmark that was constructed from 1936 to 1938. It is now a beautiful place to go skiing, hiking, or to just relax. Also, if you\u2019re a fan of Stephen King\u2019s novel \u201cThe Shining\u201d, this is where the adapted horror movie was filmed.<\/p>\n

This dormant volcano also houses beautiful alpine lakes, such as Trillium Lake and Lost Lake. Each offers its own unique view of the mountain, so it\u2019s perfect for hikers that want to wander around and enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding area. If you’re renting a full-size SUV or minivan<\/a>, be sure to bring your canoe, rowboat, or kayak.<\/p>\n

The Tranquility of Trillium Lake<\/h4>\n

There is something about Trillium Lake that is soothing to the soul. Surrounded by Douglas fir trees, it has a picturesque view of the magical Mount Hood. The drive alone has breathtaking views, but its surrounding nature makes a hike around the lake just as nice. It\u2019s a nice place to visit on a snowy fall day, especially for those looking to go sledding or simply capture a winter shot. With recreational activities like camping, fishing, boating, etc., you are guaranteed to enjoy your visit.<\/p>\n

We woke up at 3:00 am to get to the lake before sunrise. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Get Lost in the Beauty of Lost Lake<\/h4>\n

Lost Lake is a photographer’s paradise and a definite must-visit. This iconic shot of Mount Hood from the north lake shore is often featured on calendars, postcards, and souvenirs. Due to the reflective lake’s mountain backdrop and surrounding evergreen, it is the most photographed lake in Oregon. Beyond its picturesque setting, this is a popular tourist destination for hiking, swimming, camping, fishing, etc. Please note that motorized boats are prohibited. The Lost Lake Loop Hike<\/strong> is an excellent and easy trek around the lake and ideal for outdoor beginners.<\/p>\n

A Stunning View in Silver Falls State Park<\/h4>\n

Called the \u201ccrown jewel\u201d of the Oregon State Parks system, Silver Falls is famous for its abundance of picturesque waterfalls. The 177-foot (54 m) South Falls<\/strong> is one of the most famous features where people can capture breathtaking views. If you\u2019re feeling adventurous, the Winter Falls Loop<\/strong> is a 5-mile hike that takes you past seven incredible water features.<\/p>\n

Took just a 5 minute walk for this stunning view. You can actually walk behind the flow of the falls which is really awesome. This is just one of many waterfalls in the area. No wonder it’s called Silver Falls.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As you can see, while this world offers many spectacular sights, Kane\u2019s quest proves that remarkable views are often a road trip away. Her road trip was a great escape from reality that took her on a peaceful, yet picturesque outdoor adventure through the Northwest. Although there are a lot of nice cottages in the woods, renting a Volvo XC60<\/a> is recommended if you’re older than 25. It’s ideal for camping and spacious enough that you can also sleep in the car. Since the area can be cold once winter hits, the best time to go is during the Spring and Summer.
