The Alamo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Though the site was used as a burial ground by native peoples for some time before, it is most famous for its Spanish mission. Visit the Alamo to learn about the famous Battle of the Alamo that claimed the lives of Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie in 1836. The battle may have been a loss for the budding Republic of Texas, but it was a decisive turn in the war that would ultimately end in a victory for the Republic. King William Historic Area <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

East of the San Antonio River, just south of downtown, you can find the city\u2019s historic district. One of the first of its kind in Texas, the district was settled by German merchants in the late 1800s. Come here to see the many architectural gems of elegant Renaissance and Victorian mansions. River Walk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Explore San Antonino and experience the cosmopolitan city on the River Walk. A network of walkways along the San Antonio River, it\u2019s the perfect place to stretch your legs with the family in the afternoon or have a romantic stroll in the evening. The River Walk is lined with shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, artwork, museums, and even passes by the five historic missions. San Antonio Missions National Historic Park <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Stretching out to the south of the city this is the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. It hosts four of the five Spanish frontier mission UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Learn about the region\u2019s rich history and culture by visiting the Mission San Jose, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. While at the park, check out the Espada Aqueduct, a civil engineering landmark and architectural feat from the 19th-century. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Younger travel companions and thrill-seekers will be happy to know that San Antonio has several amusement parks nearby. Six Flags Fiesta Texas Park also features thrill rides and a water park for an afternoon of family fun.
