Fort Sumter National Monument<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the site of a pivotal battle in the Civil War. Since around the middle of the 20th century, this fort has been open to the public. Visitors can check out both the fort itself and the national park that surrounds it. This is one of the oldest plantations in the south and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. At one time this plantation grew rice. When you are here you will see the extensive dams and dikes built to flood the fields. The market begins at the culturally significant Market Hall that faces Meeting Street. From their visitors will find many one-story market sheds that end at E. Bay Street. Some of the animals you will find here include loggerhead sea turtles, great blue herons, and green moray eels. The largest exhibit here is the great ocean tank. The tank extends all the way up to the third floor of the aquarium. This makes it the deepest tank in North America. Patriots Point Naval &amp; Maritime Museum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find this museum at the mouth of the Cooper River on the Charleston Harbor. Some of the highlights of this museum include a carrier, destroyer and submarine all housed here. There are military veterans that volunteer here to give visitors more information about the vessels found at the museum. The park received a Landmark Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects. The park offers many scenic walkways and makes a great place to take an afternoon walk. The museum offers plenty of hands-on exhibits for kids to explore and interact with. Two of the highlights of the museum include the water room and the castle. Folly Beach County Park<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No trip to Charleston would be complete without a great day at the beach. This is an expansive beach that offers gentle rolling ocean waves. This makes it a great place for swimming for swimmers of all ages. On the beach, you will find showers available plus a snack hut. The only way to get here is by a very relaxing ferry boat ride. Once you are here this is a great place to stroll along a quiet and serene beach.
