If a vehicle is returned smelling of smoke, a special cleaning fee is charged as the vehicle must be taken out of the fleet for an extended period.
What counts as smoking in the vehicle
The no-smoking policy covers anything that produces smoke or vapour inside the vehicle:
Cigarettes, cigars and pipes
E-cigarettes, vapes and similar vaporisers
Heated and cold tobacco devices (e.g. IQOS, Glo)
Why we have a no-smoking policy
Smoke and vapour residues cling to the interior and are clearly noticeable to subsequent customers. The specialist cleaning required takes considerably longer, during which the vehicle is unavailable for rental.
What is permitted
Smoking outside the vehicle is of course fine — please ensure that ash, cigarette ends and vape residue do not enter the interior.

Please report this to the SIXT staff member at the branch before driving off — we will offer you an alternative vehicle.

These connections are intentionally disabled by the vehicle manufacturers before the vehicles enter the SIXT fleet to help protect customer privacy and prevent personal information from remaining associated with a vehicle after a rental ends.
Why connected car apps are not available
SIXT vehicles are rented by multiple customers over their lifecycle. Without this restriction, personal data from one rental could remain associated with the vehicle even after someone else has taken the wheel. The restriction also keeps every vehicle in a ready-to-rent state at all times.
Available connectivity options
You can still access many of your favorite smartphone features while driving. Depending on the vehicle model, you may be able to connect using:
Apple CarPlay
Android Auto
Bluetooth
Tip: If you are renting an electric vehicle, you do not need a manufacturer-specific app to charge. Charging services can be accessed through SIXT Charge within the SIXT App, where available.
Before returning the vehicle
Remove your smartphone from the vehicle's device list and delete any personal data, such as saved navigation destinations.
