Who is responsible for parking tickets and traffic violations?
The renter of the vehicle is solely responsible for any parking citations and/or traffic violations incurred during their rental period. All customers should pay their citations and/or traffic violations immediately to avoid additional fees. If a parking citation and/or traffic violation is received to our office, the customer will be responsible for the amount of the citation plus an administrative fee of $40.
How do I pay for tolls?
Depending on the state of pick-up and toll location, cash and coin lanes may be present. However, some roads may have cashless automated tolls only. Sixt offers different toll services to assist with paying for tolls hassle-free in all states. Please inquire at your pick-up branch about your toll service options.
What if I have my own transponder?
We welcome renters to use their own transponders during their rentals. If you opt to use your own transponder in one of our Northeast states, please ensure that our transponder box is closed so that our transponder is not activated during your trip. In all other states, please make sure to contact your transponder provider to ensure your unit works in the state(s) you are traveling in and that your rental vehicle is registered on your account.

What is a cashless toll?
A cashless toll is a toll location that does not offer the driver the option to pay in cash. When driving through these locations, the license plate of the vehicle is captured by a camera and as the registered owner of the car, the rental company is billed for the toll. Many toll road authorities throughout the country are transitioning to a cashless toll system, so please inquire directly with the toll road authority about alternate payment options that are compatible with a rental vehicle prior to taking tolls. In the event a customer is unable to pay for their toll on their own, or if they have not opted for one of Sixt's toll services, the renter will be responsible for the toll (at the highest prevailing cash rate) plus our $5 administrative fee per toll.
I have already drove through a toll, how do I pay?
Sixt is interfaced with all United States Tolling Authorities, so once the information is received, the toll charge will be debited from the credit card associated with the rental.
Why am I being billed for tolls if I used my personal transponder?
If you have been billed for tolls by Sixt and you used your personal transponder during the rental, please send a copy of your activity statement and vehicle registration page to email@example.com. A Traffic & Tolls agent will review your documentation and respond to you within two business days.
Why am I being charged after I return my rental?
As the registered owner of the car, we must rely on the toll authorities and parking/traffic agencies to provide us with the information in relation to tolls and all other violations. This time frame can vary anywhere from two to four weeks (or longer) after the close of your rental. Per our terms and conditions, you authorize us to charge your credit card for all violations that we are made aware of after the rental has already ended, plus an administrative fee for each. Violations include traffic violations, parking violations, unpaid tolls and fines or penalties assessed against you, us, or the vehicle during the rental.
Why am I being billed for a citation/toll that I have already paid to the issuing authority?
If you believe you have been incorrectly charged and have already paid for the citation/toll crossing, please send your confirmation of payment to firstname.lastname@example.org. A Traffic & Tolls agent will review your documentation and respond to you within two business days.
Why are you charging me an administrative fee?
An administrative fee is assessed for the processing and administration of all tolls not covered by one of our toll services and/or traffic/parking violations received to our office.
Why am I receiving multiple invoices for the same rental period?
We must rely on the toll authorities and parking/traffic agencies to provide us with the information in relation to tolls and all other violations. Because of this, we can only notify you of the tolls and/or violations as they are received to our office.
Where can I get a copy of my toll/violation invoice?
All invoices are sent to the email address on file within 24 hours of the charge. Please check your spam folder as it is common for these emails to route there instead of your inbox. If you are unable to locate the email, please send your request to email@example.com.
