Szczecin is the capital and largest city of West Pomerania. The city itself is mostly known for a sea port, shipyards and marinas. It is also a big touristic centre with a large number of monuments and places to visit. The location of Szczecin is perfect as you can easily driver to the sea shore and cross the border when you travel to Germany. Szczecin is an interesting city due to its architectural style which is mostly combined from the last half of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th century. Many buildings, as in most cities in Poland, were destroyed during World War II and the city communist authorities wanted the architecture of Szczecin to be strictly the same as the urban architecture in the past. This is probably the reason why the city differs in styles, including Renaissance one.
Places worth to see are:
- Pomeranian Dukes Castle
- Maritime Museum
- Red Town Hall
- Central Cemetery - the largest cemetery in Poland, the third large in Europe and one of the largest in the world
- Automobile Museum
- Brave Shafts
