The original site of the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica was built by the Spanish in 1669. The stunning white structure we see today was built in the 1950s and is a major landmark in Guam's capital, Agana. Though badly damaged during the reconquest of Guam in World War II, the Plaza de Espana is still an important historical site and has undergone restoration work. Be sure to see the Azotea, the Chocolate House, the Tool Shed and the Siesta Shed, the walls and the three arch gate to the Palace is particularly beautiful. The Forta Nuestra Senora de la Soledad is a fort just outside of Umatac. The site dates back to the 1800s and is complete with canons and amazing views of the coast. The Talaifak Bridge is a charming stone bridge next to an enchanting part of the coast.
