Reading

Reading is a large town in Berkshire located 40 miles west of London. It was an important settlement in historic times as the home to a monastery with strong royal connections.

Today Reading is a lively cosmopolitan town that is home to two universities, a busy town centre with all the major high street shops housed within the historic streets and the more recently builtOracle Shopping Centre, and a number of large UK offices for international technology companies including Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Bang and Olufsen and Virgin Media.

Visitors looking to explore the historic side of Reading will enjoy the Abbey ruins which famously lost 60% of its residents as a result of the Black Death which swept across the UK in the 14thcentury.

Reading is also the site of one of Britain's largest music festivals known simply as the "Reading Festival". The festival has been running since 1971 and continually attracts some of the top namesin the world of music when it takes place each year on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend.

Reading Football Club has a proud history and having recently fallen from the Premier League will be looking to regain top flight status as soon as possible. Their home the Madejski Stadium is alandmark in Reading having opened in 1998. The Madejski Stadium is also the home of ruby union team London Irish.
