Glasgow
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with 1.2 million people living within the greater Glasgow urban area. The city expanded largely in the 18th century when it establisheditself as a hub of transatlantic trade, later becoming one of the world's most productive ship building cities.
Today Glasgow is ranked within the top twenty European financial centres and is the home of many large Scottish businesses. Despite its Northerly position Glasgow enjoys a pleasant year round climate with winter lows averaging 6°C and peak summer temperatures averaging 18°C.
Glasgow is a lively city with a wide variety of shops and a vibrant nightlife both in the centre and West End region. Glasgow is also the home of the two most successful Scottish football clubs; Glasgow Rangers and Celtic FC and in 2014 the city will be placed under the global spotlight as it hosts the Commonwealth Games.
Glasgow Airport - GLA
Glasgow Airport is located west of the city centre close to the towns of Paisley and Renfrew in Renfrewshire. The airport handles in excess of eight million travellers each year.
Glasgow Airport is a hub for Loganair and easyJet and is also used by British Airways as a maintenance facility.
The airport has one terminal with three piers, the Western Pier serves international flights, the Central Pier services domestic flights and the Eastern Pier services low cost and Northern Ireland flights.
There are a wide range of shops within the terminal to keep you busy whilst you wait for your flight including Dixon's Travel, GameGrid and Boots. There are also three lounges within the terminal, the Sky Lounge Holiday Wing and the Sky Lounge Business Wing and the Servisair Executive Lounge.
