Simferopol a city in south Ukraine. Located in the heart of the Crimean peninsula on the river Salgir. The name of Simferopol is a translation from the Greek language and means City of Benefits. The population of the city is about 360 thousand people. Simferopol is the administrative, industrial, scientific, commercial and cultural center of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as transportation gate of the peninsula. In the city centre, there are a lot of scientific and research institutions as well as educational institutions at various levels; among them the Tauric National University V.I. Vernadsky and Medical University S.I. Georgievskogo, one of the largest in Ukraine. Simferopol is the biggest tourist center of the Crimean peninsula.
