Miramar, located between Valldemossa and Deiá, a huge area found in the Serra de Tramuntana, whose name says it all about the spectacular views that can be appreciated from high up there. Miramar -Look at the sea. In 1276, the philosopher, missionary and father of literary Catalan, Ramon Llull founded a monastery here. His objective was that young missionaries would learn oriental languages andeverything else what might need to travel to North Africa and christianize the Arabs.
The Archiduke Louis Salvator brought Miramar in 1872, trying to preserve the legacy of Ramon Llull. Besidesmany original features he saved from the house from the thirteenth century (for example the stone floor), the noble Austrian maintained many other architecural jewels. Louis Salvator moved a part of acloister from Palma to Miramar to save it from collapse.
Today in Miramar many treasures can be admired from the time of its previous owner such es the chapel with valuable religious sculptures oran imposing marble sculpure by Antonio Tantardini, in memory of the secretary of the Archituke. You can also see some of the first books printed in Mallorca or the original cabin of the yacht Nixe IIwitt which the Archiduke sailed through the Mediterranean waters.

  • 29.01.2012- The unknown side of Valldemossa

With no doubt the picturesque village of Valldemossa attracts visitors interested in culture, talking into account that the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and his lover George Sand spent the winterhere in 1838. In the monastery, dating from the thierteenth century, Chopin greated numerous pieces of music, many of which can be heard annually in this most famous monastery throughout the ChopinFastival. Sand wrote the Book "A Winter in Mallorca", which became a great help in promoting tourism, and is still sold up to his day.
Following in the footsteps of the famous pair, hundrets ofvisitors flock to this town every day and enjoy the romantic atmosphare of this plae. However, Valldemossa hides certain secrets, which visitors passing by dont even realise what they're missing outon.
The gothic style parish church that can be found right next to the Real Monastary of Valldemossa goes unnoticed by many visitors who come to find out details of Frédéric Chopin's stay inValldemossa. The interior of this church, was deep in darkness until recent years. This was because the broken glass of the windows had been replaced by simple wooden boards, creating an all roundblackness. They are now filled with light and color, thanks to three large glass windows created by the German artist Nils Burwitz. With his special watercolor technique, he's created a new rosycolour, which converts incoming light into a spectacular and beautiful spectrum of colours. The other two sids windows have also been created by Burwitz copying two separate sketches of his friendJosep Coll Bardolet. In these light crystals one can see Catalina Thomás, the patron saint of Valldemossa, known as Beateta, and St. Bruno of Cologne, founder of the Carthusian order.

  • 10.01.2012- Dear card instead of "old rag"?

In theory, a German driver's license is valid throughout Europe. This also has the European Court of Justice (ECJ) made it clear once again the spanish authorities. Yet german residents still haveproblems when they register their license or cannot redeem. Unfortunately, there are still police officers who know nothing of the ECJ ruling and shake in pink or even gray licenses only the head.Problems also threaten, when the german driver's license is stolen or lost, because no registration or exchange does not feel the spanish authority responsible. And if the german resident is notlonger reported in his community in Germany, the german original documents must be requested and will be translated by a notary. Complicated but it is the Health Check, which is obligatory for spanishdrivers at regular intervals. The german driver's license is still valid in Spain, but it's validity is subject to the ECJ decision in spanish law and is therefore limited to data from the SpanishInterior Ministry office in Spain. Will therefore be extended only on presentation of a suitability report. For motorists, the case of every 10 years, from age 45 every 5 years, from 70 every 2 years. How to be controlled in practice without required registration is still uncertain. Sactions are still the exception. The German Embassy in Madris recommends the exchange of licenses in the EU licenseto make voluntary,"since you will be notified by the Authority on the expiry of the license and are immune from unpleasant surprises". With the surprise one offense is meant, the heavy fines, adriver's license and lock the fixing of the vehicle can result.
