Trapani, known as the City of Salt and Sailing, has developed over the years a thriving economic activity linked to the extraction and trade of salt, thanks to its natural position, projected on the Mediterranean, and its port, an ancient commercial outlet for Eryx (modern Erice), located on the mountain above Trapani. Among churches and palaces ... there are plenty of things to see in Trapani!
The churches in the city are many. At the eastern end of the city center, in Via Pepoli, is the large %u201CComplesso dell%u2019Annunziata%u201D which is the main monument of the city. Behind the main altar is the %u201CCappella della Madonna%u201D which can be accessed through a beautiful Renaissance arch closed by a bronze grating of 1591. Nearby is also the former convent that now houses the main museum of the city, the "Pepoli Museum%u201D.
In the town center, a series of churches of great interest can be found such as: the church of San Francesco d%u2019Assisi, the %u201CChiesa dei Cappuccini%u201D, the church of %u201CSan Pietro%u201D and the %u201CChiesa Del Purgatorio%u201D.
One of the most attractive roads in the city is Via Garibaldi, lined with palaces and eighteenth-century churches, including %u201CPalazzo Riccio di Morana%u201D, crowned by many statues, %u201CPalazzo Milo%u201D and %u201CBadia Nuova%u201D, one of the oldest churches in the city.
